Jeff's 2007 Michigan State Spartans betting preview will provide you with the ins and outs of the oddsmakers favorite to win a Big Ten Championship this season. Tom Izzo put his team in some elite company a season ago. Last season marked the 10th straight year Izzo’s crew has made the NCAA Tournament. Only basketball powerhouses Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, and Arizona have longer current streaks. We expect the Spartans to make it number 11 this season and to be in contention for a fifth trip to the Final Four under Izzo. The Spartans will win this season with defense, depth, and determination above all other things. Oh yeah, and Izzo has a little talent pool to work with. The Spartans have four frontcourt players who are 6’10’’ or taller as well as high riser Marquise Gray who is 6’8’’. This front court helped Michigan State to one of its best defensive seasons in school history last season. With all of these guys coming back, we can expect more of the same. Drew Namick and Gray both enjoyed healthy offseasons for the first time in their college careers. Namick led State with 55 blocks a season ago. While these guys can definitely get things done in the defense and rebounding columns, Michigan State needs a consistent scorer to develop out of this frontcourt group for this team to challenge for a national title. Hard nosed point guard Travis Walton and big time scorer Drew Neitzel should be even better this season as freshman Kalin Lucas and Chris Allen will now be available to spell them. Keep Neitzel fresher is going to make him nearly impossible to defend. Expect this depth to have Izzo wanting to push the pace more both offensively and defensively. Neitzel is a preseason Big Ten Player of the Year candidate. This smooth lefty can catch and shoot off screens and create his own shot. His quick first step allows him to penetrate effectively to create shots for others as well. If Greg Oden and Mike Conley Jr. were still around, we’d be mentioning Ohio State in the same breath with national championship. How will the Bucks fair without last season’s two stars? Find out in our 2007 Ohio State Buckeyes betting preview. If Greg Oden and Mike Conley Jr. were still around, we’d be mentioning Ohio State in the same breath with national championship. How will the Bucks fair without last season’s two stars? Find out in our 2007 Ohio State Buckeyes betting preview. If Ohio State wants to get back to the Big Dance, head coach Thad Matta will have to develop a new nucleus of players. Jamar Butler, who seems like he’s been at Ohio State since 1999, is the only returning starter from last season’s 35-4 team. He will be asked to take over the point guard duties. While Ohio State seems to be left in a hole, remember that this is the same situation the Buckeyes were in a year ago with freshman needing to produce. The frontcourt undoubtedly takes a hit without Oden patrolling the middle, blocking shots, gobbling up rebounds, and throwing down dunks. Othello Hunter will be asked to step up and fill Oden’s shoes. Matt Terwilliger will share time with Hunter and much anticipated transfer, Kyle Madsen, and talented freshman, Kosta Koufos and Dallas Lauderdale, will add depth. Koufos is 7’1’’ with the ability to bring the ball up the court and launch threes. He may be the biggest matchup nightmare in the Big Ten already as a frosh. Jamar Butler takes back over the point guard duties, which he held as a sophomore when the Buckeyes charged to win a Big Ten title. David Lighty and Evan Turner along with talented frosh Jon Diebler will bring solid play to the backcourt. Matta will be hoping that Diebler can bring his scoring touch, which led the nation in high school last year, to Columbus. Look for this scorer to play the two-guard spot. Turner will be a spark plug which Matta likely brings off the bench. Lighty showed glimpses of greatness last season. He will be a go-to guy on this year’s team. How will the Longhorns fair without standout Kevin Durant carrying the load this season. Jimmy’s 2007 Texas Longhorns betting preview give you his take. With Texas losing LaMarcus Aldridge to the NBA two season’s ago and losing Kevin Durant after last season, one would think that this program might be scraping the bottom. Not even close. With those guys, the Longhorns would be challenging for a national title. Without them, they still have the talent to get to their fifth Sweet 16 in the last seven years. They lose 25.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game from Durant. That will be hard to make up. But the Longhorns still have one of the best backcourts in the country with point guard D.J. Augustin and shooting guard A.J. Abrams. Abrams averaged 15.5 points per game last season and Augustin tallied 14.4 points per game. Although some of their scoring opportunities stemmed from the attention that Durant commanded, I don’t feel like these guys will have any trouble picking up the slack and upping their averages. Damion James is another talented player who you will see improve by strides this season with more time in the spotlight. He could take over Durant’s spot on the wing. James averaged 7.6 points per game as a frosh and is the team’s leading returning rebounder, averaging 7.2 boards per game last season. We fully expect him to be a double double machine this season. Another reason why we shouldn’t expect a big drop off is because the Longhorns should be better defensively. Last season, Texas allowed its opponents to shoot better than 40 percent from the field. 6’10’’ center Dexter Pittman will be a huge reason why the Horns will be better on the defensive end. He has shed nearly 100 pounds of the 388 frame he came to college with. His size will be a factor both offensively and defensively. Baylor has been the butt of the Big 12 Conference for years now, but with guard Aaron Bruce foregoing the NBA to play his senior season, Baylor believes they can make the NCAA Tournament. Find out if Dave Price agrees in this 2007 Baylor Bears betting preview. I believe Baylor’s hopes of an NCAA Tournament berth are a bit presumptuous. Baylor finished with a 15-16 record last season and with a 4-12 Big 12 mark. The fact that the entire starting lineup returns has Baylor faithful believing the Bears can have their first winning season in seven years. Oddsmakers even have the Bears finishing ahead of Colorado, Iowa State, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State. I’m not so quick to agree. Remember that Baylor has lost 25 straight Big 12 road games. The Bears were picked to finish seventh by Big 12 coaches a year ago and came in 11th. I think the Bears will be disappointed again. If Baylor does enjoy some success this year, it will be largely due to the performance of the frontcourt. Forward Kevin Rogers became a force last season averaging 12.8 points per game and 7.6 boards per contest. The Bears have a pair of seven footers who are going to have to step up their play this season. Mamadou Diene was plagued by injuries last season and never found his rhythm. Josh Lomers brings some beef inside but could not stay out of foul trouble to save his life last year. View College Basketball Betting Odds now at OnlineSportsHandicapping.com!

Sixth-ranked Louisville takes a step up in competition on Wednesday night as they face UNLV at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. The game could be a tough one for the Cardinals because they will be playing without center David Padgett who injured his right knee in Sunday’s win over Jackson State and may miss the rest of the season. SBG Global reports that early NCAA Basketball betting has the public taking Louisville on the Road. College Basketball Betting Preview Louisville (2-0) at UNLV (3-0) Wednesday, 9:00 pm Eastern – VERSUS TV SBG Global Opening Line: Louisville -3.5 , Total TBA "David Padgett's (college) career is probably coming to an end,” Louisville head coach Rick Pitino said, "We're all devastated for David and for the team.” Padgett averaged 9.5 points and 5.6 rebounds last season and was a big part of the Cardinals offense. "I've seen him fight so hard, be so determined to come back and help the team, so optimistic about having a great senior year team-wise and personally,” Pitino said, "It's real difficult to swallow.” Louisville is also missing senior forward Juan Palacios until December because of a knee injury. It is expected that the Cardinals will put Terrance Farley in Padgett’s place. Farley has four points and six rebounds in two games. Louisville is facing a difficult part of their non-conference schedule. They face UNLV who has won 19 straight at home, then play BYU on Friday and either Old Dominion or No. 1 North Carolina on Saturday. "We did this to try and make ourselves tougher,” Pitino said, "It's going to be quite a test.” Louisville will hope to get continued production from Earl Clark. He had career highs of 20 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists against Jackson State.
