The Baylor Bears are on a roll. Well maybe not but their win last Friday was huge for the program and it was huge for the plethora of online cappers who had the Bears to demolish Washington State in their college football picks, which they did. That win has the Bears believing they can do a lot more than just win a home game against a weak PAC 10 opponent. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that this Baylor team is a lot better than the one of years past and I say that because three games into the season, the Bears are almost at their win total of 3 games from just one year ago in 2007 and I have a feeling this team is going to flirt with Bowl eligibility at some point. This is a very winnable college football picks matchup for these guys because the Big East has taken quite a few notches in the wrong direction this season and if Baylor can play the way they have the last two weeks, and a lot of experts really think they can walk into UConn and shock the Huskies. I found an interesting note showing that Baylor is 11-2 SU in their last 13 games prior to a bye since the 1994 season and although many of those games were quite a long time ago, I strongly believe this team is destined for good things. The College Football oddsmakers at Sportsbook have made a late line move to make the Connecticut Huskies the dominant -13pt favorite heading into tonight college football matchup against Baylor. Connecticut Huskies -12 (5 Units) Huskies will take down the Bears, their wins over Washington State and Northwestern State were impressive and you can't forget that for at least a portion of their game against Wake Forest, this Bears team did compete and they did make a game of it so they are dangerous. Baylor comes into this game averaging a very decent 36.3 points per game this season and they have managed to do that on a whopping 447.3 total yards of offense per game and 7.2 yards per play in those games. Connecticut's defense has played well this season and they have allowed only 7.3 points per game this season and have allowed 229.0 total yards of offense per game on 4.0 yards play in those games. On the ground is where I think Baylor could have some success in this one as they have averaged a whopping 242.3 rushing yards per game on the season and in those games have averaged 6.3 yards per carry. QB Robert Griffin leads the team in rushing with 288 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns which is impressive considering he passes as well as he throws. The Huskies defense has allowed opponents to rush for only 66.3 yards per game this season on 2.6 yards per carry but they have yet to face a double threat QB like Griffin which is where I think they will make some adjustments and allow themselves to pull away once they do. In the air, Griffin has completed 62.3% of his passes this season for 10.3 yards per pass attempts, 4 touchdowns and 0 interceptions (which is impressive even after playing against Wake Forest the INT machines). Connecticut's defense has allowed opposing QB's to complete 56.4% of their pass attempts this season for 5.2 yards per pass attempt. Griffin has been sacked only 4 times this season, remarkable considering the state of the O-Line, and his mobility will be huge tonight against a Huskies defense that already has 9 sacks on the season. The Huskies also have 6 interceptions on the year but they have recovered only one fumble. In other words UConn has no trouble stopping teams that throw interceptions and allow a lot of pressure on their QBs. Well Baylor does neither and I think they will actually have their offense on the move but as to how long that will last, I'm not sure. The Bears have lost 4 fumbles this season and that could be a problem because they are a team not used to running the ball so many times per game and I have no doubts they will turn the ball over when this game matters most. With a nice little dose of running game combined with Griffin's ability to find a great group of receivers on the deep ball, the Huskies defense will probably struggle early in this game until they get things together and realize that if you contain Griffin, he really has nothing but his legs and his ability to throw downfield. He is still a bit raw. This is the biggest test for the UConn defense and although they have played well, the duo threat QB is going to be a challenge and I think the oddsmakers did a good job with this line. I like Baylor but not on a Friday night and not in this place against UConn. CONTINUED >>

Even though it’s still early in the college football season, a few teams have already packed it in. One of those teams is Syracuse. We used them as a selection two weeks ago at the dome against Akron and I felt that was a make-or-break game for them. The latter turned out to be the case, as they lost by double digits and they were pounded by Penn State last week, 55-13. I wanted to use Penn State as a pick but just could not justify laying 28 points against a BCS Conference team playing at home. No question Coach Greg Robinson needs a miracle to save his job and Syracuse will cover a couple of these huge numbers down the road, but you will not see this writer using them as a pick. Of their eight remaining games, I believe the Orange will lose at least five of them against the spread. Going against these types of teams can pay for your vacation because the coaches, fans, and players are all aware of this situation and it will only get worse. A couple of other teams that are struggling but not to the extent of Syracuse is Michigan and Hawaii. Both have new coaches but these programs have been used to pushing around weaker programs during this decade. Payback is tough and many of their conference foes and making them pay for all the years that they have been dominated by these former powers. But as the saying goes, you better get them this year, because they will be back! As the season progresses, I always try to find a team each week that has a bubble that will finally burst. In my opinion this week’s team is Vanderbilt. The Commodores have been playing outstanding football, especially with QB Chris Nickson’s ability to run. That being said, I expect the run to end this week against a much-improved Ole Miss team. Coach Houston Nutt is a winner and the home team is 6-1 in this series since 2007 , winning by an average of nine points. The Rebels have not fared well in SEC openers, losing four straight. However, that will change this week and I look for this homer to win by double digits. Ole Miss was in the same situation as Syracuse when they fired a proven winner and the replacement set the program back. Lucky for them Ed Orgeron is gone and Houston Nutt is used to coaching in the SEC having had great success at Arkansas. I already mention Coach Robinson being on the hot seat but he is certainly not alone as every year numerous coaching changes are made. One of those individuals is used to the hot stove, as Dave Wannstedt had yet to turn around his alma mater at Pittsburgh. Losing the home opener to Bowling Green made all those high expectations vanish after an impressive victory last season against West Virginia. The Panthers did beat Buffalo the following week and now will face Iowa, a team they will have two weeks to prepare for. This will be a big test, as I feel the Big Ten is weak this year but Iowa has been one of the most impressive teams in the conference thus far. That being said, the Hawkeyes are not the team that they once were and had a real emotional battle with Iowa State last week. This writer would certainly have to give the edge to Pittsburgh in this ‘pick’em’ game.
Speaking of the Big Ten, it seems nobody was shocked that Ohio State got run over by USC last week in Los Angeles. I have never seem a game lose so much luster, as everybody felt Ohio State would get pounded and that is exactly what happened. This is a dramatic change from the start of the season when I was set to use the Buckeyes as a selection, but I got off of that and I really do not think Beanie Wells could have made that much of a difference. I really cannot see anyone beating the Trojans, since their toughest conference opponents all come to the Coliseum. In this game, the USC defense was simply too good with too much speed for Ohio State. As it stands now, my two teams to play in the title game are USC and the winner for the Missouri/Oklahoma game (Big 12 Championship ). The Sooners have been laying eggs in bowl games of late, but I think they have the talent to win it all in 2008. Even though I think the Big Ten is somewhat weak, it will still be an exciting race between four teams. Three of the teams are all highly ranked (Ohio State, Penn State, and Wisconsin), but I feel a real sleeper will be Michigan State. The Buckeyes have two tough tests, at Wisconsin and at Michigan State. They will lose one of those two games. The Badgers may have the easiest road as they play both Ohio State and Penn State at home, but must travel to Michigan State. Assuming both teams are healthy, I feel Michigan State will ruin the Badgers season once again. Penn State also must go to Wisconsin and Ohio State. Michigan State will end their season at Penn State on Nov. 29. I truly believe that this game could determine the winner of the Big Ten and I expect every team to have at least one loss come December. This should make for an exciting race and there is great balance in the league. The big story in the NFL this week was the Chargers/Broncos game where a blown call cost the Chargers a victory. This is truly an indication of how popular the NFL is and it’s still the talk of ESPN as of Wednesday. Yes, it was a bad call but that happens in every game and will continue to happen in the future. San Diego still had two chances to stop Denver but failed to do so and they now blame ref Ed Hochuli for the result. Instant replay has taken over the games and has now lost the original intent of what it was put in to do: fix obvious mistakes. But because of the wording, it was not able to correct this (major mistake). Instead coaches use it to nitpick things like clear control of the football and spotting of the football. For those of you that believe Ed Hochuli should be fired, I would doubt that you are this perfect in your chosen profession. There would be a huge turnover in officials if every one was fired over a bad call. These are the best refs in the country and even they will make mistakes from time to time. I felt the league really threw him under the bus and instead should have supported him. We all need to move on and Ed will certainly be reffing another game this week, as he is one of the best. Best of Luck this week, Doc

The Connecticut Huskies look to go 4-0 to start the season as they host the Baylor Bears on Friday night. This nationally televised game on ESPN 2 should have some offense in it as Baylor is coming off a game in which they scored 45 points in a win against Washington State while Connecticut scored 45 points in their rout of Virginia last week. They are 26-8 at home over the last four years and they have won the last 8 or 9 in a row. They are a tough team." Baylor has turned things around somewhat this season under Briles. College Football Picks Alert "ESPN Game of the Year" from expert handicapper Jimmy Boyd. Jimmy is OnlineSportsHandicapping.com's hottest college football handicapper heading into Thursday nights West Virginia vs Colorado ESPN college football matchup. Currently the oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have West Virginia as the -3 point college football betting favorite with the total set to 56.5 (ov -105). But the real question here is what Jimmy Boyd has to say about his "ESPN game of the year" pick tonight.
The 21st ranked West Virginia Mountaineers were not able to run up the score last week , unlike what we have since in previous college football matchups. After coming of their worst performance in seven years the West Virginia Mountaneers head to Colorado with high hopes of turning things around. Colorado on the other hand has a different idea. Colorado's last college football matchup against in-state rival Colorado State resulted in a victory and they have no intentions of easing up after a hard fought win against Eastern Washington on Sept 6th. Colorado trailed in the fourth quarter in their matchup against Eastern Washington when Cody Washington completed his 3rd touchdown pass of the game to tie the score. Colorado's Cha'Pelle Brown intercepted a Eastern Washington pass and scored the winning touchdown to end the game 31-24 Colorado. Will Colorado pull off another victory in college football week 4 and the West Virginia Mountaineers? Jimmy Boyd has the lock on this ESPN College Football Picks Week 4 matchup with his "ESPN Game of the Year" To Play!

Week 4 College Football Picks Kansas State vs Louisville: The Wildcats are 2-0 to start the season, and they have put up 45 and 69 points in those games. The problem is they were cupcake teams they played. Last week they beat Montana State, 69-10. Any team that puts up 50 points on the board in the first half against any team, is pretty impressive! The offensive starters have had two total drives in the second half this year. Their defense has only allowed 13 pts in two games (only 7 in the first half on our starting D). Last week they returned two blocked punts for touchdowns and Josh Freeman ran for two scores and threw for two more. According to the Montana State media guide, the 69 points tied for the most points allowed by the Bobcats since 1950. Given, the last two teams weren't of elite competition but KSU's defense has stepped up to the plate and I'm sure is more confident they lead the team and not the offense. The Oddsmakers at LooseLines.com currently have Kansas State -4 favorites to Louisville heading into this matchup with the total at 56 points. Cardinals are 1-1 to start their season. They lost in week one, 27-2 to Kentucky, but came back last week to win big against Tennessee Tech, 51-10. Louisville (1-1) rolled up 451 yards of total offense and added touchdowns on defense and special teams. QB Hunter Cantwell was 15/23 203 yards and 2TD's. Louisville wasn't perfect. The Cardinals turned the ball over twice and Cantwell got hit hard more than once. Louisville's offense isn't exactly on fire this year and K-States been dominating but they haven't seen a real defense this season and that will be the deciding factor. Week 4 College Football Picks: Louisville did play a perfect game last week but this was against a no name team, when they did play a decent team in week one they scored two points. I know K-State hasn't played anyone yet but they are doing what they are supposed to do, win big. Plus their starting is defense not giving up points. K-State is not favorite on the road for nothing. Hell you get a 3 point advantage for being at home in Vegas so that means that the book makers think KSU is actually 6.5-7 points better than Louisville. The thing is will they cover as road favorites? I have the answer to that question when you order my top play on this game tonight. Check out my Week 4 College Football Picks. Also remember I had 3 top plays during the week and I went 3-0 with those plays, so check out my Week 4 College Football Picks to get this big winner tonight.
