2007 MLB Preview: Cleveland Indians at Detroit Tigers (8-21-07)
Fausto Carmona will get his second straight start against the Detroit Tigers as the two top teams in the American League Central meet again this week, this time in Detroit. Last Wednesday, Carmona struck out a career high 10 and allowed just two runs and four hits in eight innings of a 5-2 win against the Tigers. Rookie Jair Jurrjens gets the start for Detroit on Tuesday.
SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the Tigers at home with a comeback of +111.

Tuesday, 7:05 pm Eastern

SBG Global Opening Line: Indians -133, Total 9.5 (-130)

Carmona is now 14-7 on the season with an ERA of 3.16. He snapped a three-start losing streak in his last start. He has pitched well all season but doesn’t always get run support. "Whew, Carmona was something," said the Tigers' Brandon Inge. "First of all, he has an incredible sinker, but he's throwing a slider and changeup for strikes, too. All night, I saw one, maybe two pitches up in the zone. Everything else was on the black or at the knees - and with movement." Carmona has won both of his career starts in Detroit. On May 27th of this year he allowed three runs and nine hits through seven innings of a 5-3 win.

Jurrjens (0-1, 5.14) will make his home debut for Detroit. He threw 104 pitches Wednesday over seven innings in his first major league start. He gave up four runs and five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. "I was in a fantasy world," said Jurrjens, "This was the first time my dad saw me pitch (as a professional). I recognized his whistle in the crowd. That was the best feeling ever. I thought I pitched OK, but that Carmona was incredible. He has the best two-seamer in the game."

Two of the best teams in baseball begin a three game series tonight in Los Angeles as the Angels host the New York Yankees. The Angels lead the American League West but have Seattle right at their heels while the Yankees are closing fast on the Red Sox in the American League East in addition to being in the Wild Card hunt. SBG Global reports that the betting public is taking the favored Yankees on the road and is also playing the Over 9.5 runs.

The Yankees have gone 27-11 since the All-Star break including taking three of four from Detroit over the weekend. Johnny Damon went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and Wilson Betemit added four RBIs. "We have guys who understand this is crunch time, guys who know how to flip the switch,” said Damon. Rookie Phil Hughes (2-1, 4.44 ERA) gets the start for New York tonight. He gave up three runs and five hits in a 6-3, 10-inning loss to Baltimore in his last start. This will be his first-ever start against the Angels.

2007 MLB - Detroit Tigers at New York Yankees (8/17/2007)
Gary Sheffield and the Detroit Tigers continue a very important series in New York on Friday against the Yankees. The Tigers go with Nate Robertson on Friday while New York counters with Andy Pettitte. It could be another high scoring game on Friday as Robertson is 7-9 on the season with an ERA of 5.01 while Pettitte is 9-7 and has an ERA of 3.93. SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the favored Yankees at home.

MLB Betting Preview
Detroit Tigers at New York Yankees
Friday, 7:05 pm Eastern

SBG Global Opening Line: Yankees -180, Total 10.5 Over (-120)

Robertson has been a little better in his last two starts but still has not regained his form of last year. Robertson is 1-4 in six career regular-season starts against the Yankees, including 0-2 at New York.

Pettitte won for the fifth time in his last seven starts on Sunday in Cleveland, holding the Tribe to just two runs and seven hits. He has had seven straight good starts. He is 9-8 with a 3.64 ERA in 21 career starts against the Tigers in his career.

Pettitte will have to deal with Sheffield on Friday and that is never easy. Sheffield ripped into Joe Torre and the Yankees and his reception in New York was not pleasant. "Sheffield fans are going to be Sheffield fans," he said. "And anyone who isn't a fan of mine, they'll do what they always do, whether it's there or anywhere else. I can't say when I played there every fan was my fan. They were fans when I hit a home run, so that's all that is."
