 In 2004, Ray Allen when playing for Seattle Supersonics had some words for Kobe Bryant after a preseason game against the Lakers. Allen questioned Bryant's leadership, that Bryant would be more selfish since Shaq was shipped to Miami Heat. Kobe told reporters when he heard the news "Don't even put me and that dude in the same breath." "That part of the game, the way guys go at each other, has changed from when I first got into the league," said Allen, who was selected in the 1996 draft along with Bryant. "There's always been trash talking, but man, it's gotten so personal now. And Kobe, he talks trash with the best of them." On Monday when asked about it from reporters Allen had this to say “I didn’t have to say anything more about it. At the time, when I’m playing in the Western Conference, we just finished playing them in the preseason. Obviously, it’s a team that you see regularly, you have more of a feel for them. It was that at the time. We’re in a different part of our careers and our lives right now. I have to take care of what’s going on with my Celtics team, and that’s all I concern myself with.” Ray Allen was exactly right though when he said those comments four years ago. He was selfish when Shaq left, and then complained he wanted a trade to management all the time. Shaq did go to Miami and help them win a championship and Kobe couldn't do it with out Shaq. What matters now is that Allen doesn't care anymore, Kobe doesn't care anymore, that was then, this is now and they are both older, wiser and perhaps more cognizant of how unimportant some things are.
Kobe Bryant vs. Ray Allen-- Kobe always has a mismatch over everybody even Ray Allen. No defense in the world is going to stop Kobe Bryant from scoring so lets just throw that out the window. I think Ray Allen will start the series guarding Kobe, but expect Paul Pierce to take over in parts of the games. But could this matchup be closer then people think? Ray Allen is the key for the Boston Celtics in this series. They are going to go to Kevin Garnett a lot on the box and he will get doubles so Ray will be open. The past two playoff games Allen has been heating up, but it's going to be almost a week now since their last game. What Ray has to do is to be able to counter Kobe's scoring outbursts with big scoring numbers himself. He is among the all-time leaders in three pointers made and is considered one of the best if not the best pure shooter in the game today.
