AFC East New England Patriots preview and Odds 2008 (06-17-08)

Has there ever been a more disappointing 18-1 team in NFL history?  The New England Patriots lost the only game that counted, the Superbowl against the NY Giants.  The Patriots will bring back their record setting offense again this season.  There main concern is there offensive line as every team in the league saw how to beat the Patriots in the Superbowl by getting to Brady.  The records of Tom Brady and the offense are widely-known, Brady's 50 TDs, Moss’ 23 or Moss and Welker combining for 210 catches.  They ranked at the top last year, 589 points, scoring at least 31 points in 12 of 16 regular season games.  The NFL early betting at Sportsbook.com currently has New England Patriots 7/2 to win 2009 Superbowl.

How will coach Belichick approach this season after finishing one win shy of a perfect 19-0 season.  The Patriots bring back their record-shattering offense, virtually intact.  They will win this division if there isn't an injury to Tom Brady.  The New England Patriots have the easiest Schedule in 2008.  There opponents had a .387 winning percentages in 2007, losing 58 more games than they won.  They are only going to play four playoff teams from last year and the other 12 they play had losing records last year.  The Patriots will open the 2008 season against the Kansas City Chiefs on September 7th at Gillette Stadium.  Patriots get an easy start and should be able to break the consecutive wins during the regular season streak.  Sportsbook.com currently has New England season win total set at 12.

Coach Bill Belichick, 9th year with the Patriots (105-40), 14th year as NFL Head coach (142-85).  The Patriots have all the pieces in place to make another serious run towards the Superbowl.  Quarterback Tom Brady and wide receiver Randy Moss are back with and nine defensive starters.  The defense is getting old but if rookies like Jerod Mayo and corner Terrence Wheatley can contribute, the Pats could be headed back to the Superbowl.  Mayo has versatility, intelligence and play making ability to immediately contribute.  Wheatley is out of Colorado.  NE was concerned about there secondary and made his the second pick. The Patriots last two postseason losses came when the defense couldn't hold the lead, and gave up long touchdown drives, with these two new draft picks should help them out a lot. The oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com currently have New England Patriots 2/1 to win the AFC Championship for your early NFL betting.

Tom Brady had a high ankle sprain coming into the Superbowl and he just wasn't himself in Superbowl XLII.  He would never admit to it.  He is back now and fully healed so the NFL is once again going to have to get out of his way.  You can't convince Pats fans there's a better quarterback in the NFL.  Brady has yet to miss a start after taking over for Drew Bledsoe three games into the 2001 season.
