The New England Patriots will try and keep their perfect season going as they host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday night in NFL playoff action. The Patriots were the first team in NFL history to go 16-0 in the regular season but unless they win the Super Bowl it will mean nothing. The Patriots set records for most points scored in a season with 589, most touchdowns with 79, most TD passes as Tom Brady had 50 and most receiving TD’s by a player as Randy Moss had 23. The Patriots have not talked about what a perfect season would mean. They are very focused with head coach Bill Belichick focusing on each week’s opponent. "To see what we've accomplished this far is great. But, as coach put it, there's another mountain to climb," Brady said. "We're in the same position as Jacksonville, which is in the same position as Indy, which is in the same position as San Diego." The Patriots will be facing a Jacksonville team that could give them some trouble. The Jaguars have a running game led by Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew that could be successful against New England’s run defense. Taylor and Jones-Drew combined to rush for 1,970 yards, the second-best total in the league behind Minnesota's Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor. Jones Drew has the explosive capability while Taylor gets the bulk of the carries. Taylor rushed for at least 104 yards in each of his last five regular-season games. "I think (Taylor's) playing the best type of football he has in his career," New England linebacker Ted Bruschi said. The Patriots run defense allowed an average of 124.8 rushing yards and 4.9 per carry in five December games. Jacksonville was able to win on the road last week at Pittsburgh as quarterback David Garrard came up with a huge 32 yard run late in the game to set up the winning field goal.

The problem for the Jaguars may be stopping the Patriots. New England had the greatest offensive season in NFL history. Quarterback Tom Brady won the NFL MVP award and was named Offensive Player of the Year. "Individual awards haven't been as important to me as the team goals, and I've said that for a long time," Brady said. "While I'm very flattered to be honored in that way, I understand that my greatest satisfaction comes from winning games and being the leader of this football team. I take that job very seriously and I hope that translates into a win this week." Brady has a lot of talent surrounding him led by Moss and Wes Welker who tied for the league lead with 112 receptions this season. The Patriots can also run the ball with running back Laurence Maroney who had more than 100 yards rushing in two of his last three games. Running the ball may be difficult against a Jaguars’ defense that held the Steelers to just 43 yards on the ground last week. Jacksonville has been playing without linebacker Mike Peterson, Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcus Stroud and safety Gerald Sensabaugh who have missed games with injury.
