On Monday night game 2 of the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs will take place. The Detroit Red Wings will remain on home ice as they face the Pittsburgh Penguins. In game one the Red Wings came out firing and took down the Penguins by a score of 4-0. They had a balanced effort on defense and their offense produced when they needed it too. The Penguins are going to need a much better effort if they want to be successful in game 2.
Mikeal Samuelsson led the wing to the win with 2 goals. He has an excellent game, although he was not the sole reason why Detroit won the game. They dominated play after the first period. They limited the Penguins to only 19 shots and 12 of them were in the first period. Goaltender Chris Osgood had an easy night as he picked up the shutout. Osgood played very strong in the first period turning away several good scoring chances by the Penguins early on. If Detroit is able to execute this game plan again in game 2, then look for them to be victorious yet again. Currently Oddsmakers at Sportsbetting.com have the Red Wings as -170 favorites heading into game 2 on Monday. The Penguins had very little production out of their superstar players. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin were held pointless and were kept in check by great Detroit defense. Crosby who is second in the entire playoffs with 21 points and first in assists with 17, needs to step up his game. He has to get the Penguins going and led them with his play in game 2. Malkin is also at the top of the leader board with 19 points of his own. He is going to have to help Crosby out. They are also going to need to get some production out of their power play which has been great in the playoffs. Game 2 will take place on Monday with both teams eager to get back to the ice and win.
