Hart Trophy Candidates

By Dan The Man Leach Host of SportsEdge Radio Show

With the hottest game on ice at the midpoint of the season, there is a group of players who are separating themselves in the MVP (Hart Trophy) race. Some of these players are names you will recognize, some are the future of the NHL, and all are on fire through the first half of the year.

1. SIDNEY CROSBY-CENTER-PITTSBURGH (72 POINTS/24GOALS/48 ASSISTS): Well, Crosby might not be playing in Pittsburgh much longer, as the team may be moving, but while the 19-year-old is there he is making the best of it and is fast becoming the face of the NHL. Crosby leads the NHL in points and assists and is near the top in goals. For a league that lost its identity in recent years, it will be players such as Crosby who will hold the mantle like Gretzky and Lemieux did in the '80s and '90s.

Nhl Western Conference Report

By Dan The Man Leach
WagerWeb.com Contributing Writer

It has been a truly exciting season in the NHL so far, and as we enter the second half of the season, let's take a look top 5 teams in the Western Conference. These are the teams I feel will be there in the end fighting for Lord Stanley’s Cup, as well as couple of sleepers that could make a lot of noise come playoff time.

1. Nashville (71 points, 1st place Central Division): Could this be the Predators' year? Many people thinks so as the former late-1990s expansion team is fast becoming a power in the Western Conference. The leadership of Paul Kariya has been key as he has 53 points, most on the team heading into the second half. WagerWeb.com lists the Preds as +800 to win the Stanley Cup.

The National Hockey League has yielded some FAT returns as of late for our team of handicappers. On the radio show, we have been doling out winners like they’re cotton candy! Wednesday’s money line pick of the Penguins was one of the easiest calls of the season!

Philadelphia was severely undermanned due to injury and was playing their second game in as many nights, while Pittsburgh was well rested and was chomping at the bit to play. The result was a predictable and easy win for Sidney Crosby & co. There are more to be had if you pay attention!
