SBG Global Opening Line: DC United +110, Total 2.5 Over (-125), Draw +225
D.C. United hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy on Thursday night in front of a sellout crowd at RFK Stadium. The reason for the sellout was the expectation that the Galaxy would have David Beckham in the lineup. That is unlikely as Beckham is doubtful with a sore ankle. RFK Stadium is expected to be a sellout with 45,000 fans in attendance. Normal attendance for a United game is only 17,000. "I think it's always frustrating for a sportsman when you can't do what you love doing," said Beckham. "Yeah, it's very frustrating because it's an injury that has had me out for almost eight weeks. It's getting better, it's improving every day, but myself, I would want it to be a bit quicker. But obviously it's a natural thing." SBG Global reports that with the uncertainty of Beckham, the public is taking favored DC United at home.
Beckham has not played against any Major League Soccer competition since coming to the Galaxy. He played only 16 minutes on July 21 in an exhibition against English Premier League powerhouse Chelsea. "I don't know how you can wear a suit at a game a couple of days prior and be expected to (play)," said United defender Bobby Boswell. "I don't think he'll start but I don't really worry about it, we'll prepare accordingly."
"He hasn't played yet so anything could happen," said United forward Jaime Moreno, "We are concerned with L.A., not about Beckham. We know it's going to be a big crowd which will be nice and hopefully some of those people will come watch us, not just to come and watch Beckham. To have more people come to the stadium is what we need."

United are coming off their best road game of the year, beating New England 3-0 at Gillette Stadium last Sunday. "I think it's only human nature to let down a little bit after a big win. This is an easy game to get motivated for, for so many reasons -- the crowd, national television, you name it -- this is going to be a great atmosphere, a great show and we are all very excited," said United midfielder Ben Olsen.

David Beckham is not expected to play Wednesday when the Los Angeles Galaxy visits Toronto FC. He did make the trip to Toronto but is unlikely to play. He is also doubtful for Thursday's game against D.C. United. RFK Stadium usually averages about 17,000 per game for the United but has announced a sellout of over 45,000 for Thursday's game as fans anticipated that Beckham would be playing. "It would be nice to play some part of the game in Washington but I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed," Beckham said. "A week to 10 days is what I'm looking at.
"The problem is it being my left ankle. The way I strike the ball puts a lot of stress on my left ankle. Maybe if it was the right one, it would be a lot easier, but being the left one there's still a lot of stress. And I never play with strapping or tape on my ankles, so that doesn't help either. But it would be nice to play some part in the game in Washington, but I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed and work at it." Both games will be broadcast on ESPN 2.
The Galaxy still have not had Beckham for a full practice since he joined the team nearly a month ago. He originally injured his ankle June 6 playing for England in a 2008 European Championships qualifier and then it got worse. "I sprained it playing for England, played again four days after for Real Madrid with the sprain and pulled the ligaments," Beckham said. "Then I played the last game of the season for Real Madrid (June 17) with three injections to numb my ankle, so you can imagine what my ankle looked like after the game. I ripped the ligaments in that last game so it was a bit of a mess. Then I went on holiday to recuperate and then when I arrived in L.A., it was the first time I really had treatment apart from about a week of fitness work that I was doing in the south of France."

Michael Ballack said in no uncertain terms that he will not leave Chelsea and has had no contact with Real Madrid. Rumors have had Real Madrid in contact with Ballack and his teammate Arjen Robben but Ballack has denied any contact.
"I am totally committed to Chelsea," he said, "I came here to win trophies and be successful in English football. I want to assure the Chelsea fans of that. I am very happy in London professionally and for my family. The speculation about me leaving is not true. I have no interest in leaving Chelsea and I have had no contact with Real Madrid whatsoever. I am frustrated by my injury at the moment but I am working hard to be fit and hope to be back very soon to join my teammates."
In other Premiership news, Everton is looking at Barcelona striker Santi Ezquerro. The 30-year-old striker is available on a free transfer from Barcelona.
Also, Juventus have said that defender Giorgio Chiellini, who had been rumored to be leaving will return. Coach Claudio Ranieri's said, "There is no truth in the voices linking Chiellini with a move. Giorgio is part of the club's plans and is staying at Juventus.

There will be no letdown from Manchester United as they look to win their 10th Premier League title. Sir Alex Ferguson, the head man at United is ready for the season to start. With newcomers Owen Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson and Carlos Tevez, things are looking very good for the defending champs.
United should get a good test this weekend against Chelsea but Ferguson is ready for the season to start. "I have had too many pre-seasons to think this is exciting," he said. "We all know it is essential to have a good preparation but I just want to get started right now. We have a new team, and, including Tevez, we have made four good acquisitions. It is difficult to say how we compare with everyone else but there is no doubt we expect to be better."
"The name of the game at this club is winning," said Ferguson. "But while we want winning teams, we also want entertaining teams. Getting the championship last season was a fantastic effort but we did it in the right way, which just made it even more satisfying."
Ferguson sees that Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have improved. "It could be quite an interesting league," he said. "You can never expect anything other than a tough competition but every year, by January, usually two or three teams have broken away,"
Manchester is taking it pretty easy in the friendlies, not wanting to risk injury. Anderson and Owen Hargreaves will not play against Chelsea. Others that will miss the game are Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Louis Saha and Solskjaer. "You don't want to lose your best players at any time but we are all aware the African Nations Cup is there, which is probably why Chelsea have bought players like Steve Sidwell, Tal Ben Haim and David Pizarro, who will be around in January," said Ferguson.
Sunday's game is a rematch of the FA Cup Final that was extremely dull. Ferguson said Sunday's game might be a little better but the result means very little. "It will be a better game than the FA Cup Final," he said. Bet on Soccer at Sbgglobal.com |

The 2007-08 Premiership season is nearly here and it should be another very exciting season of great action. The defending champions are Manchester United and they will be one of the favorites to repeat again. They have some of the best players in the world led by Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney and Christiano Ronaldo. Early proposition soccer betting at SBG Global has the public looking to repeat with Manchester United at +150.
They also now have Owen Hargreaves who they got from Bayern Munich. Alex Ferguson is excellent in the midfield and United also picked up Brazilian playmaker Anderson and Portuguese winger Nani.
Chelsea was the runner-up last season and will try and take the title this time but will be hard-pressed to keep pace with United. Chelsea did sign Claudio Pizarro from Bayern Munich and Steve Sidwell from Reading. Jose Mourinho will need to do a better job this season if Chelsea is to retake the title.
Arsenal is still dealing with Thierry Henry's departure to Barcelona but they did sign international striker Eduardo Da Silva from Dinamo Zagreb as a possible replacement. Arsenal's young players like Cesc Fabregas could surprise this season.
The big news for this season might come from Liverpool. They got Athletico Madrid's striker, Fernando Torres. He has been one of the most sought after players in Europe over the last few years. Liverpool is making a lot of noise and may be a threat to United and Chelsea and should at least compete with Arsenal for third place. After the top four teams there is a definite drop off.
It has come down to the big three in terms of Premier League Championships for a long while now. In the past 15 years Manchester United has won the title 9 times, Arsenal 3 times and Chelsea twice. Liverpool will try and move into the elite group and win the title this season.
