Golden Boy Promotions along with Mayweather Promotions brings us "Undefeated". "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr. (38-0, 24 KO's) verses "The Hitman" Ricky Hatton (43-0, 31 KO's) live from the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 8, 2007. This bout will be for Mayweather's WBC Welterweight Title and so much more. Opening Betting Line on Bodog : Mayweather Jr. - 225 Hatton + 185 In my opinion, this will be the best "Welterweight" fight since the 1999 brawl between Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad. This bout will live up to the hype as it brings us two unbeaten fighters, that will decide who is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world... Two fighters who can fluctuate in weight class as much as Oprah, and not unlike Oprah, they have seen great success on all levels... This will be the Fight of 2007, an instant classic for the ages! If you look up the Orthodox boxing style in a dictionary, you should see a picture and a description of these two fighters... Both fighters have been ranked in the top ten in "The Ring" magazine's best pound-per-pound fighter in the world list. Floyd was ranked number one in the world in their July 18th, 2005 issue. While Ricky was just named eighth in the world in their November 2007 issue. It seems like forever since we seen Floyd's last bout against Oscar De La Hoya in May of this year, where Mayweather won his split decision over the Golden Boy. Mayweather Jr. had said that the De La Hoya bout would be his last as he was contemplating retirement. However, just three months later he agreed to fight Hatton. Many said that he couldn't pass up the money and a win over Hatton would cement him as the best pound-for-pound fighter of this modern era. As the opening betting lines show us, Mayweather will be a heavy favorite with the public. If this fight was in England, I wouldn't be so sure of that. The British public loves Hatton, and many will make the trip to Vegas to support their fighter. I look for a 65-35% crowd towards Mayweather in this one. You can see from Ricky Hatton's fighting skill and his down to earth attitude why he is so like-able in England. He breaks up his training by joking around and playing pranks on those close to him. However, he can flip the switch and turn it on when he needs to. In the training before Ricky's last bout he suffered an arm injury. He then went on, with the injury, to knockout Jose Luis Castillo in the 4th round. Hatton retained his IBO and won the vacant WBC International Light Welterweight titles. The WBC International title was later vacated. We all know that Floyd's corner is full of family, but so is Hatton's. Hatton's father Ray, is his manager, and also manages his brother Matthew (who is fighting on the under-card). However, it is Hatton's trainer Billy Graham, who will have Ricky ready for this fight of his life. "I'd say he was faster and sharper than ever", said Graham. Billy has had Hatton fighting 15 rounds against their trademark "body belt" in preparation for Mayweather. Hatton has used Rock Allen and Karl Dargan as his sparring partners coming in to this one. Mayweather Jr. has taking a very different approach in his preparations for this bout. He used "Dancing with the Stars" for his conditioning. Which sounds funny at first, but also worked for Holyfield in his return to the ring. Fighting stamina is 60% of a fight in my opinion, some call this heart. If Mayweather wins this bout, we may see many more boxers dancing on TV. The mind games have already started , as Ricky Hatton declared he "will force the American into retirement". While Floyd's uncle Jeff has stated that "Hatton does not even belong in the same ring as his nephew". Reports state that De La Hoya was tipping Hatton on Mayweather. This doesn't have Floyd concerned at all. In the build up to this bout, Mayweather claimed that he is the greatest boxer ever, saying: "I respect what Robinson and Ali did for the sport. But I am the greatest, and this is my time"... So in closing, what you'll need to know when placing your wager on the fight of 2007: Which wins 70% of the time two orthodox fighters fight, speed or power? Will the very different prefight training styles of these two fighters be a factor? Will the 65-35% Mayweather crowd have an effect? Does Hatton have enough charisma to sway the judges on the close rounds, or will Mayweather take all the close ones if the fight goes to the card? Will the fight go all 12 rounds? If your not sure, and want to make money, see my selections at onlinesportshandicapping.com. I will weigh our "risk verses our reward" from my experience actually being in the industry (see my Boxing subscription for details). If you can't make the trip to Vegas, this one is a must watch/purchase PPV bout of 07... View Boxing Betting Odds now! |
