Bernard Hopkins vs Winky Wright Fight Preview PDF Print E-mail

Bernard Hopkins vs Winky Wright Fight PreviewThe Light-Heavyweight Boxing Championship will be on the line when the Bernard Hopkins vs Winky Wright fight takes place at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, NV, Saturday July 21st on Pay-Per View. BetUs.com has posted boxing odds for this fight slightly favoring Wright at -150.

Both of these fighters are master boxers who have perfected the sweet science in their own respective styles. Hopkins, 47-4-1, 32 KO's, is a Philadelphia boxing disciple who can do it all: Box from the ouside, slug and maul you inside or counterpunch effectively while being unhittable. Wright, 51-3-1, 25 KO's, is defensive specialist who has perfected a high guard, flatfooted, catch and counterpunch technique that has made him a top 5 Pound-4-Pound fighter at 160 Lbs. Both of these boxers have cocksure attitudes that most top pound-4-pound fighters of their caliber adopt.

Set at a catchweight of 170 lbs. Hopkins is the bigger man physically . Winky has fought most of his career at 154 lbs. while Hopkins fought at 175 lbs. in his last fight when he dominated former Light-Heavyweight Champ Antonio Tarver to win the title. B-Hop looked very strong and powerful at 175 despite having fought all of his previous fights at 160. Standing at a rangy 6'1" Bernard also holds a 3" height and reach advantage in this face-off. Wright has youth on his side however, being 7 years younger than Hopkins,42. While Hopkins is probably the youngest 42 year old one will find, Winky is in his prime.

Antonio Margarito vs. Paul Williams Fight Preview PDF Print E-mail

Antonio Margarito vs. Paul Williams Fight PreviewPoint-Spreads.com believes that when two fighters looking for respect collide, which is the case tonight in Antonio Margarito vs. Paul Williams, a great fight is bound to happen. The #2 rated welterweight Antonio “The Tijuana Tornado” Margarito, 34-4, 24 KO’s squares off against #9 rated Paul “The Punisher” Williams in a 12 round bout.

The 25 year old Williams throws tons of punches at a high velocity with his freakishly long 82" inch reach on his 6'1" frame. What’s even more scary is that he has agility behind a good jab and a southpaw. The older Margarito, 29, wants to hold onto his W.B.O welterweight title belt so he was essentially forced to accept this fight. Sportsbook.com has Antonio Margarito a small -125 odds favorite in the bout.

The 5'11" Antonio Margarito has never been one too shy away from a tough scrap but he tends to get hit a little too often and might be in for a long night. Southpaws are a pain to fight no matter how much preparation is put in during training camp. Antonio is all-fighter though displaying a solid chin with great endurance and mental fortitude.

Paul Williams 32-0, 24 KO’s has yet to be tested by the type of pressure that Margarito smothers his opponents. How will he react? There are lots of questions to be answered about Williams in this fight including what type of punch resistance does he possess. Long lanky guys like Paul tend to be a bit chinny for the most part and Margarito has good power.

Arturo Gatti vs. Alfonso Gomez Fight Preview PDF Print E-mail

Arturo Gatti vs. Alfonso Gomez Fight PreviewBoardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey will be the scene tonight for Arturo Gatti vs. Alfonso Gomez. The big question on everyone’s mind is whether there is enough thunder still left in Arturo Gatti, 40-8, 31 KO’s, to hold off top 30 Welterweight contender Gomez?

BetUS.com has listed Arturo Gatti as a -185 odds favorite to beat Alfonso Gomez in the fight. If Gatti were a car though, his odometer would be clicking somewhere in the 300,000 mile range now. After a one-year layoff Arturo has handpicked Mexican Alfonso Gomez for his comeback after taking a beating in his last fight to then Welterweight Champ Carlos “Tata” Baldomir.

In that fight Gatti, 35, looked old after being taken out on his shield via 9th round KO. Gomez, 26, having gained popularity on the reality TV show “The Contender” is in his prime and ready to prove that he is indeed a real contender.

Alfonso likes to apply pressure enforced by a piercing body-attack with both fists. Gomez has a stiff jab, quick hands and a big heart. For Gomez however, this will be his first ever scheduled 10 round fight having never gone past 8 rounds.

2007 Boxing Fight - Castillo vs. Hatton

The IBO Light Welterweight title will be on the line Saturday night when titleholder Ricky Hatton takes on challenger Jose Luis Castillo at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

'The Hitman' Hatton, from Manchester, England, is the favorite since he's the champ, and his undefeated record of 42-0 with 30 knockouts looks pretty good too. In his last bout Hatton won the IBO Light Welterweight title with an impressive 12-round unanimous decision over Juan Urango. That was Hatton's first fight after retuning to the Light Welterweight division after trying his hand at the Welterweight title. Oddly enough, Hatton won his Welterweight title fight against Luis Collazo to claim the WBA Welterweight title, but relinquished the belt four months later after deciding to return to Light Welterweight.

Castillo, nicknamed 'El Temible,' hails from Mexico and is five years older than Hatton, but might make up for it with an extra two inches of height and four inches of reach. With a 54-7-1 record including 47 knockouts, Castillo is the more experienced of the two fighters and is considered by many to be the bigger puncher. After a tumultuous 2006 that included a cancelled second rematch with Diego Corrales due to weight problems and a suspension for the rest of the year, Castillo stepped back in the ring in January to face Herman Ngoudjo. After a tough 12-round battle Castillo barely escaped with a split decision. If Castillo performs down to the level he did versus Ngoudjo when he takes on Hatton, then the Englishman will easily retain the title.

Don't be surprised if this fight goes the distance and ends up in the judge's hands. Both fighters have shown knockout power in the past, but they also both can take a punch and will need to sustain a lot of damage to hit the canvas.
