On Saturday May 3rd, the Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya is going to fight against Steve Forbes live on HBO. The boxing event will take place at The Home Depot Center's soccer stadium at 10:00 PM ET. The match is scheduled for 12 rounds of 3 minutes each.
Oscar De La Hoya, who is a Los Angeles native, comes into the fight will a record of 38 wins and 5 losses, with 30 knockouts. He is currently entering his 17th year as a professional fighter and is coming to the end of what looks to be a Hall of Fame career. De La Hoya looks to be the better boxer heading into the fight. When comparing the two fighters, he has Forbes by three and a half inches in size and also has him by 5 inches in wingspan. These are two huge advantages in Oscar’s favor. This fight will be a tune up and Oscar should win it handily. Currently Oddsmakers at SportsBetting.com have De La Hoya as a huge -1700 favorite heading into Saturdays bought. Steve Forbes is a former WBA super featherweight champion and was a finalist on “The Contender”. He is from Las Vegas, and holds a record of 33-5, with 9 KO’s. Forbes is 31, and is younger by 4 years. He holds the age advantage, but I feel Oscar is much more experienced. He also holds an advantage is recent fight activity. Forbes has fought 10 times, since September 2004, while De La Hoya has only fought twice. Forbes is coming off a recent split decision victory over Francisco Bojado. This will boost his confidence heading into Saturday. Another stat to take into account is that he has never been knocked down in 11 years as a professional fighter. While Forbes is an excellent fighter, he just doesn’t match up to De La Hoya. During his run on the t.v. show, “The Contender", none of the fighters he faced were anywhere near the caliber of Oscar. He is not able to match Oscar punch for punch. Oscar is more experienced, a bigger fighter and much quicker. I think De La Hoya will take this fight easily and put another win under his belt.
