Vernon Forrest, 38-2, 28 KO’s, last won a razor close 10 round decision against Ike Quartey, 37-4-1, 31 KO’s 1 year ago. Forrest has been plagued by various injuries over the past 5 years and has been fighting very in-frequently. Carlos Baldomir, 42-10-6, 12 KO’s, is coming off a one-sided beating at the hands of Pound-4-Pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. 9 months ago but he managed to go the distance. Both of these guys are looking to get back in the big time $$$ with a win on HBO. Carlos “Tata”is at his best when his opponents back is to the ropes so he can pound away with a volume of two-fisted looping punches. Vernon’s two losses came at the hands of Ricardo Mayorga who has a similar style to Baldomir but Mayorga has more power. Argentinian Baldomir is a hard- headed brawler who is slow and hittable but knows how to win having lost only 1 fight (Mayweather Jr.) in the last 8 years. Forrest should be able to out-box the short 5'7" cut prone Baldomir from the outside and pile up points. Baldomir has strong promotional backing so he might hold a slight advantage with the judges but Vernon should make the fight clear-cut enough to ensure a win over the 12 round distance.
