Best NCAA Tournament Coaches for your NCAA Picks(02-12-2008)
This article takes a look at some of the best coaches in the NCAA tournament to make NCAA picks on. How could we start anywhere else but with Duke's Mike Krzyzewski . With 68 career NCAA tournament victories, Coach K is the winningest coach in NCAA tournament history.

Not too shabby for a guy which still has a lot of years left in him. It comes as no surprise really with Krzyzewski coming from the Bob Knight school of coaching, having played under night at Army and having coached along side him at Indiana. Coach K picked up a bunch of NCAA tourney pick wins from 1988-1992 when he led the Blue Devils to five consecutive Final Four NCAA picks victories , winning back-to-back titles in 1991 and 1992. As the coach of the NBA Olympic team, we really can't regard any coach higher than Krzyzewski and he has another Duke team capable of making a Final Four NCAA picks run this season.

Roy Williams comes from the Dean Smith school of coaching and his Tar Heels squad is knocking on the door of another title this season. It is only fitting that the two top coaches on our list come out of the biggest rivalry in college basketball. Williams was the second winningest coach all-time at Kansas when he left and now he is looking to continue the North Carolina legacy. It didnt take him long to earn his first NCAA Championship after he arrived in Chapel Hill. He replaced Matt Dougherty in 2003 and had the Tar Heels cutting down the nets in 2005. Williams is tied for sixth all-time in NCAA Tournament wins with 42 and has an NCAA postseason win percentage of .724, fourth-best among active coaches. Seven of his teams have been seeded No. 1 in a region in NCAA play. Williams has won at least one game in the NCAA tournament for 18 consecutive years (all-time record).

Tom Izzo's Michigan State Spartans have reached the Final Four in four of the last nine NCAA picks seasons which is more than any other team during that span. Izzo's .727 winning percentage (23-9 record) in the NCAA tournament ranks third among all active coaches with 10 or more games coached. And perhaps the most solid statistic of all that he could throw toward player in recruiting is that every MSU basketball player who has stayed four years under Coach Izzo has played in the Final Four of the NCAA tournament.

John Calipari needs a title to move up on this list, and he just might get it this year with his number one ranked and undefeated Memphis Tigers. Calipari has a record in the NCAA tournament of 18-9. He has reached the Final Four once and the Elite Eight four times. He is one of only three coaches in NCAA Division I history to direct two different schools to a number one seed in the NCAA tournament picks , Roy Williams and Bill Self are the others.

That last line allows us to segue to Bill Self who has had great NCAA picks success with Illinois and Kansas, but also doesn't have a national championship ring. Self is 16-9 in NCAA tourney play and has four Elite Eight appearances. This year's Kansas squad is as stacked a team as he has had. If he can't break through this season, it makes me wonder if he ever will.

Villanova at Georgetown College Basketball Betting Picks (02-10-2008) PDF Print E-mail

Villanova at Georgetown College Basketball Betting Picks (02-10-2008)
The game tonight at the Verizon Center is a big game for both in this Big East Clash . The number 6 is something to consider in this one. First off, the Georgetown Hoyas are the #6 ranked team in the country coming into this one. Villanova, well to say that they are struggling is an understatement, and had it not been for a late 3-pointer in their last game vs. Seton Hall they would have dropped their 6th straight. Oh, and Georgetown have lost 6 straight to Villanova at home too.

We have to go back to January 27, 1997, to see the Hoyas last home win over Villanova. A 78-67 final played at US Air Arena. Villanova is 6-0 at the Verizon Center, having held the Hoyas under 70 points each time.

Georgetown has a stifling defense this season, but the Hoyas sputtered offensively in the second half at Louisville on Saturday and lost 59-51, meaning they're likely to fall in Monday's new rankings.

"It's the simple things. It's a simple game," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said. "They executed and we didn't."

The Hoyas had won six straight and 11 of 12 before Saturday, thanks in large part to their defence having allowed 70 or more points just once this season - and that was to Memphis.

Lack of defense was the biggest problem for Villanova during its recent five-game losing streak. The Wildcats are 14th in the conference with 75.2 points allowed per game in Big East play.

They gave up an average of 80.6 points as opponents shot 50.8 percent during their skid, but held Seton Hall to 28.1 percent shooting in the second half Saturday. That allowed junior Dwayne Anderson's 3-pointer in the final minute to give them a 72-70 win.

We are consistently listed in the "HOT CAPPERS " section here on OSH due to our winning picks. And we are hitting on 74% of our College Hoops plays this season! Check out who we like in this one before you make your play.

NCAA Tournament Handicapping Tips for College Basketball Picks (02-08-2008) PDF Print E-mail

NCAA Tournament Handicapping Tips for College Basketball Picks (02-08-2008)

If you’ve never bet on the Big Dance before, Jimmy has jotted down some NCAA tournament handicapping tips that will help you cash in on more of your College Basketball picks this March Madness season. SportsBetting.com has college basketball futures for your NCAA March Madness picks.

First off, money management is critical. If you have been using a money management system throughout the season, stick with it. Don’t just raise your bets because the games are bigger in hype. If you don’t currently have a money management system, you should look into finding one. Here’s what often happens. Bettors will get down big the first day of the tournament and then they will double down the next day to try to get it all back. Unlike the Super Bowl, which is just one game, or even the NBA Finals or World Series, which could go seven, the NCAA tournament is a marathon and not a sprint. There are large quantities of games spread out over three weeks. Make a little each day and you’ll have a nice chunk of change at the end of it.

Players also go the other way. They get on a roll and then they start betting more. If you up the ante too much, you’ll end up giving it all back. We recommend sticking to your system through and through.

When you bet the NCAA tourney, understand that high profile favorites are often overvalued by the oddsmakers in the early rounds when they take on smaller conference schools. Oddsmakers haven’t handicapped many non-conference games since early in the season and they haven’t handicapped many games at all with such a large discrepancy in the level of talent in some cases. Lines are often loose in the first and second round games giving us an opportunity to find some live underdogs. Also, remember that these smaller schools have nothing to lose against the high profile giants. Those teams which can shoot lights out from the perimeter are always a good underdog play in the early rounds. Our best advice right now is to start looking at some of the mid-major and minor conference teams which you feel will have a shot to go dancing and learn them inside and out so you won’t have as much work to do when the brackets come out.

Another thing to look for is how teams finish their seasons. If a team comes in on a hot streak having just won its conference tournament, you may want to look at its possibilities of remaining hot in the tourney. It can be a smart play to go against bubble teams which have skidded down the stretch and sneaked there way in because of quality earlier wins earlier in the season. The “what have you done for me lately” strategy can be very effective.

Look for schools which will more or less be playing home games with the way the seeding works out. These schools will be more comfortable getting to play close to home with a large fan base. Home court advantage is bigger in college hoops than any other sport in terms of handicapping the point spread.

Great defensive teams are also great bets. Especially is these teams are healthy dogs. How well teams score always seems to weigh heavier in the minds of oddsmakers and many times we have taken advantage by choosing defensive teams to do our damage.

We hope you’ll find Jimmy’s handicapping tips useful. You can expect Mr. Boyd to be exercising them to perfection from mid-March to the beginning of April during the NCAA Tournament. It won't take long before you know who to trust for the most March Madness winners this season.
