Big Monday West Coast Conference match-up NCAA Picks  (02-11-2008)

College basketball fans and bettors start the week with plenty of NCAA picks action tonight. ESPN will televise three great Conference match-ups, stating with Big East rivals Villanova at #8 GeorgeTown slated for 7:00pm Est. At 9:00pm Est., a huge Big 12 clash between #3Kansas at #11Teaxs and concluding with #25 St. Mary’s at Santa Clara at 11:00pm Est.

St. Mary’s (20-3 SU, 10-7 ATS) are atop the WCC tied for first with Gonzaga. Posting 20 wins for the first time in 3 years, the Gaels have remained in the top 25 for 3 weeks for the first time since the 1988-89 season. St. Mary's has won 3 in a row (3-0 ATS) with all 3 wins coming at home, there last loss at San Diego Jan. 28. The Gaels are sporting the WCC best offense at 78.1 points per game but have only averaged 65.8 in 5 WCC road games. Home court advantage at quaint McKeon Pavilion has been tremendous for St. Mary’s 14-0 SU and averaging (85 PPG). The Gaels have gone 7-3 SU and 3-5 ATS on the road this season averaging (69 PPG). After last Monday’s overtime win 89-85 versus Gonzaga, the Gaels trounced San Francisco 76-51 on Friday. Against San Francisco St. Mary’s grabbed a season high 15 steals and shot 51.9 percent from the field. Yusef Smith had a career best 15 points also snatching 7 boards playing only 16 minutes from the bench. Tron Smith and Omar Samhan both followed with 12 points, while Patrick Mills (leads the team with 15 PPG) and Diamon Simpson added 10 each.

After a 31 point 76-45 thrashing by the Gales, Santa Clara (12-10 SU 9-10 ATS) will be out for revenge at home. The loss was there worst defeat since losing to New Mexico 93-59 during the 2004-05 season. The Bronco’s have gone 4-2 SU and cashing 5-1 ATS since that game. The two loses came against San Diego 53-51 on Jan. 26 and to Gonzaga in OT 87-82 on Feb. 2. In three previous meetings with the Gaels, Santa Clara had won all three going 3-0 ATS as well. The Bronco’s have the WCC best defense at (62 PPG).

Santa Clara has been idle since last Monday’s win over Portland 52-50. John Bryant a
6-10 center had 15 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots, he is second in the WCC with 17.6 points per game. The Bronco’s have won back-to-back games just once since November and have lost 7 in a row to ranked opponents.
