Thanksgiving College Football and NFL Schedule Betting Odds: Conventional wisdom in U.S. college football states that it is better to lose early in the season as opposed to later if you are a top-ranked team; the rational being, if you lose early you can slowly claw your way back up, but if you lose late, you could tumble into the non-BCS bowl abyss.
The next two weeks of college ball will tell us everything we need to know about the BCS matchups and the bowl season.
But it is Thanksgiving week and that means NFL schedule has NFL picks matchups on Thursday and big bonus offers from the books.
Looking at the NFL schedule from last week - the 1972 Miami Dolphins had an opportunity to once again uncork some champagne on Sunday as the last undefeated team in the NFL’s regular season suffered its first loss.
Listed as 6-point home favorites, 10-0 Tennessee played host to the New York Jets and Brett Favre and the boys took the Titans to school.
The underdog Jets blew out the home team by a final of 34-13 and the Total of 40.5 went Over, with the players taking a hit, as the Titans attracted most of the betting action.
The Colts won one for their backers, taking their ATS mark to 4-7, but it was their fourth consecutive win and they are now right in the thick of the AFC playoff race with a record of 7-4 after Sunday’s action.
This week, the 2.5-point road underdog Colts defeated the San Diego Chargers on Sunday Night Football in a 23-20 victory.
The week finished with the Saints absolutely rolling up the Pack, hanging more than 50 points on them. The betting action was pouring in on the road underdog Packers building up to the game, taking them from +3 to +1 by kick-off. But Green Bay simply couldn’t keep up against that impressive Saint offense. Bet on the Thanksgiving day NFL Schedule Football betting matchups now!
On the college side, with approximately two weeks left in the season, the marquee matchup this past weekend featured the No. 2 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders travelling to Norman, Oklahoma to play the No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners, with Texas Tech listed as 7-point underdogs and the Total set at 76.5.
This week’s game was shown under a national spotlight and those expecting a close game featuring two of the nation’s best teams were sorely disappointed as the Sooners scored four consecutive touchdowns to start and went into halftime with a 42-7 lead—Oklahoma would score a convincing 65-21 win when all was said and done.
The Sooners were the nation’s top team going into the Red River Rivalry game with Texas in October but suffered an “early” loss to the Longhorns and tumbled in the rankings and polls.
The win netted Oklahoma bettors a profit and allowed the university to rise to the third spot in the BCS standings; the Sooners lost early but are now back in the national title hunt.
Speaking of untimely losses, the Penn State Nittany Lions (No. 8 in the BCS) are probably still cursing their only loss of the season thus far.
The Nittany Lions failed to cover as 7.5-point road faves in a 24-23 loss to Iowa a few weeks ago, in a game that will probably cost Penn State a shot at a national title.
Still, the Nittany Lions did fans and bettors proud this week in a game against the 16.5-point underdog Michigan State Spartans.
Penn State won by a final of 49-18, covering the spread and going Over the 46.5-point Total.
