The Hawaii Warriors have already pulled off a college football picks upset over one of the favorites to win the WAC and now they will try to pull off another one over 15th ranked Boise State this Friday night on ESPN. Hawaii defeated then-No. 22 Fresno State on the road October 4th. The odds makers don’t want to hear any of this upset talk and have inked the Broncos in as 26-point home college football picks favorites. View "JimmyBoyd" College Football Picks now!
The Warriors started the year 1-3, but have gotten back to .500 with back-to-back college football picks wins in conference play. Hawaii is coming off a nice 10-point win over Louisiana Tech last Saturday. It was the second straight win for new starting QB Inoke Funaki, who three for two scores and rushed for another. The Hawaii defense was supposed to be its strength this season and that could be more true the past couple weeks. It forced four turnovers against Louisiana Tech and came up with six takeaways against Fresno State the previous week. Now the Warriors are sitting at 2-1 in WAC play and can thrust itself right into the middle of the college football picks title hunt with another upset win. Hawaii is no doubt going to have to continue to win the turnover battle if it wants to have a chance. The Warriors have been on the winning end of things the past two weeks while coming up with 10 takeaways, but they know what it’s like to be on the losing side of a turnover-prone performance. Hawaii was edge out by San Jose State 20-17 on September 28th in a game where it committed six turnovers, five in the second half, and gave away a 17-17 halftime advantage. Nothing can make a team sicker that this - the Spartans’ final three scoring drives covered a total of one yard. Hawaii is also going to need more consistently good play from new starting QB Inoke Funaki. He was 14 of 26 for 224 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 43 more yards last week. Running back Kealoha Pilares has also proven to be a key contributor in the Hawaii offense. The running back carried nine times for 54 yards and also caught five passes for 52 yards and a touchdown last week. Defensive back Desmond Thomas has shown some big play ability on defense, coming up with a fumble recovery and an interception against Louisiana Tech. The defense is likely going to have to be depended on to deliver again as the offense has been very up and down. The offense is especially going to have to be better on third down. They were only 4 of 14 last week. If you think the Warrior can keep this one within the number, bet Hawaii at +26 at your favorite sportsbook. The Broncos appear to be the cream of the crop once again in the WAC. Boise State survived a sloppy game with Southern Mississippi last week with a 24-7 college football picks win in Hattiesburg. While the offense usually gets the recognition, the defense has been dominant this season. Boise State held Southern Miss to only 278 total yards last week and stuffed the Eagles on all four of their fourth down attempts. The Broncos are only allowing 11.2 ppg and have held four of their five opponents to seven points or less. The offense has scored in spurts and has been far from consistent. The Broncos scored all of their points on four straight drives against the Eagles last week. QB Kellen Moore threw three first half touchdown strikes and then only tallied 26 yards in the second half. Despite being erratic, the Broncos have won by double digits in four of their five games. Running back Ian Johnson is yet to get on track the way we expected he would coming into the season. His 11 totes for 56 yards marked third straight game he has rushed for fewer than 60 yards. QB Kellen Moore finishes an efficient 21 of 30 for 170 yards and three touchdowns but completely disappeared in the second half. Special teams and defense has been carrying the load thus far and it looks more and more like it will be those units which takes the Broncos to a WAC title. Safety Ellis Powers has been a special teams phenom. The Broncos have got to play better in the second half on offense. If they let the Wariors hang around, they could be the victim of a major upset. The Broncos have only scored once in the fourth quarter all season and have been shut out twice in the second half of games this season. If you think it will all click for the Broncos this week, make your college football picks Boise State minus the points.
