Sports Handicapping: Covering Spreads 101

Let me offer you my advice and take you on a crash course to help you in this gaming business.

My first and most important Rule number one is, never chase your money !

If you make a bad bet and get beat, do not panic. Every one of us wants to double up after a loss and recover as quickly as possible. Just don't forget your position, if you are trying to rebound and you didn't already plan on playing that game their probably was a good reason why. Do yourself a favor and step back, refocus and regroup yourself.

Set yourself a recovery goal to regain your funds and stick to it. Stay focused on making your next pick and don’t worry so much about the loss, focus on the next win!  As the cliché goes there's nothing wrong with taking three steps back to move eight steps forward.

Rule number two is, bet with your head and not your heart!

This is the toughest rule for most casual cappers, because your favorite team is probably why you got into sports gaming in the first place. Your favorite team is the team you obviously know the most about, which intern means you think they will always cover the spread but chances are more than likely they don't-and won't. When going against your heart and while watching the game, block out your favorite team and remember this is about winning and not playing favorites.

Rule number three, if your picks have gone sour it’s a good idea to find a Professional Handicapper.

There's a hand full of good ones out there, I consider myself one of the few.  I suggest you start tracking and monitoring other talented handicappers for yourself. As an example, I work 50 hours a week at making my covers. My off hours are watching the games, or reading up if I missed anything at all. I really don't have much of a life, but do have a great girlfriend who also likes watching the games which helps considerably. So basically, what I'm saying is that if you don't have the time, hire a capper to do the work for you!

Rule number four, enjoy your wins !

Take the time to appreciate your work, focus on it and become a winner. Very few can retire off of their gaming, but a lot of people are easily able to take extra family trips, upgrade your house or improve the quality of your life in general.

Rule number 5 is; keep yourself in position to be able to play forever.

You need a set system made off of the amount you bet and the number of games you play a day. This is a business first, and fun second. I was a Vice President of a Corporation that did over 56 million in sales a year... Now I am retired, but Handicap full time...

I would wish you guys luck, but focus on skill because this is a skill business...
