An impressive win coming from the 20th post position Big Brown easily worked his way into first position just after the last turn. Half way down the final stretch Big Brown convincingly pulled out ahead of the field and crossed the finish line five lengths from his nearest competitor. The filly Eight Belles had to be euthanized due to a dual ankle injury and collapsed at the conclusion of the race.
