OAK vs BAL BAL
-6½-110

BALTIMORE (-7) over OAKLAND

The Raiders avoided disaster once again, as a long Janikowski field goal negated a botched timeout at the end of regulation and a break for the Jets. Meanwhile, Joe Flacco followed up his low point at Indy with a near flawless performance at Miami. The Ravens named Flacco the starter for the season prior to Indy, which will pay off in the long run. The Raiders will be in trouble against the Raven's defense if they had a problem scoring just 13 points at home against the Jets, and don't expect JaMarcus Russell to shoulder the load for a 2nd week in a row. The Raiders do have rushing capability, but considering the Ravens shut down the perplexing Dolphins rushing offense, that shouldn't be an issue. The bigger issue is the venue. Once again, the Raiders will be coming to the East for an early game, and the last time that happened they laid an egg in the 2nd half at Buffalo and got destroyed at New Orleans. Those of you who read last week's write-up also learned about the Raiders players' road behavior at the team hotels, which consequently resulted in an innocent wedding at the downtown Buffalo Hyatt to end early (see previous picks- week 8). Not exactly the kind of thing I'd expect to happen with a bunch of veterans, but with irresponsible youngsters and rookies, yes. I don't know exactly where the Raiders are staying this Saturday night but if you're at the wedding at the team hotel, keep an eye on your date when she leaves the ballroom.

Give J. Russell some credit for hanging in there in overtime, but he's got a long way to go. When you're on the road in the NFL you need complete and total concentration to win the game, and until the Raiders can prove that kind of discipline and behavior across the board, go with Flacco and company for this one as they have momentum also, but most importantly, will not be jet -lagged.

Baltimore 20, Oakland 10
