Belmont Stakes betting odds Da' Tara is a longshot contender in the Belmont Stakes at 25 to 1. His career record is record: 7-1-2-1. On 3/29 he raced against Big Brown in the Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park. He finished 9th that day at long odds of 65 to 1 and lost by 19 lengths, and wasn't a factor at all. He came back almost a month later on 4/26 to run in the Derby Trial held at Churchill Downs. He ran 5th that day at 22 to 1 odds. That day he was behind the leaders on the inside and lacked a closing bid. His recent race was on 5/17, the Barbaro Stakes held at Pimlico Racecourse on Preakness day. He finished 2nd that day getting beat by the favorite Roman Emperor. He engaged the leader at the top of the stretch and dueled throughout the stretch and almost prevailed under a drive. The early Belmont Stakes betting odds at SportsBetting.com are 25 to 1 for Da Tara.
Da' Tara will be ridden by Jockey Alan Garcia. Through Dec. 31, 2007, Garcia ranked 13th nationally with earnings of $11,805,772. In 2007 he rode 235 winners from 1,439 mounts. He has won with his first and only Breeders' Cup mount, annexing the 2007 Filly & Mare Turf aboard Lahudood. He became the third rider to be 1-for-1 in Breeders' Cup mounts. He was the last rider to pilot 2003 Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide on July 4, 2007. Funny Cide won the Wadsworth Memorial Handicap at Finger Lakes, the gelding's final career start. "I was so excited to ride a Kentucky Derby winner. It was such a good experience for me. Everyone was screaming for him at the track." Nick Zito, trainer of Da' Tara grew up near Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, New York. He started his career as a hotwalker and groom for trainer Buddy Jacobson. He also worked for trainers LeRoy Jolley and John Campo. Zito’s first winner was Palais at Liberty Bell Park in Philadelphia in December 1972. He is one of only 17 trainers in history to saddle two or more Kentucky Derby winners (Strike The Gold and Go For Gin), as well as the 2003 Kentucky Oaks winner Bird Town. Zito saddled 2005. 2007, his stable ranked 19th in earnings with $5,140,794 and had 62 wins in 436 starts. I really like Alan Garcia as a Jockey but this horse is way out of his league in this race. His recent race was when he finished 2nd in the Barbaro Stakes, don't let that fool you as there was only 5 horses running in the race. He can't close and he has no speed, that means no shot in this spot.
