SBG Global Opening Line: Mets -150, Total 8 flat
The New York Mets will try and improve upon the best record in the National League when they host the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday. The Mets will try and win their fourth straight. Oliver Perez looks to extend his career-high winning streak to four. Perez (6-3, 2.54 ERA) has been a big surprise for the Mets this season. "He's getting better and better," Mets catcher Paul Lo Duca said. "He has great command of his fastball on both sides of the plate. He's making the pitches he has to make. He has turned into a monster." SBG Global reports that most wagers are taking the Mets at home.
Perez is coming off a 3-0 win against Atlanta where he went 7 innings allowing only four hits. "I'm not sure I expected everything he's done so far," Mets manager Willie Randolph said. "But it's exciting to see what he's become and exciting to think what he might become." The Mets are coming off a three game sweep of the Marlins. Perez has won his last four home starts with a 1.91 ERA, but in his career against the Giants he is 0-4 with a 6.23 ERA in seven starts.
The Mets are -150 favorites with a total of 7.5 flat at SBG Global.
The Giants are coming off a bad series against Colorado where they were swept in three straight. The Giants turn to Tim Lincecum (2-0, 3.08) on Tuesday as they try and break the losing streak. Lincecum has been excellent in his last three starts. He is 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 22 innings in his last three starts. He allowed two runs and five hits in eight innings of a 4-2 win over Houston last Tuesday. "Each outing, he's done a better job of pitching," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said, "He's not just throwing out there."
The Giants are 4-9 in their last 13 road games. The Giants are 6-15 in their last 21 road games vs. a left-handed starter. The Giants are 5-13 in their last 18 vs. the National League East. The Giants are 3-8 in the last 11 meetings in New York.
