Tonight the San Diego Padres will host the St Louis Cardinals. The Padres have the worst offence in the majors and have the worst record as well. Adding on to this, their best pitcher and ace, Jake Peavey is now injured. He is going to miss his start today because of soreness in his right elbow. San Diego begins a three game series set again the Cardinals tonight.
Wilfredo Ledezma will come from the bullpen to take the starting spot and mound for San Deigo. He is 0-0 with an era of 2.64 and has made only two starts since 2006 and just one this season. He allowed 1 run on two hits in four innings at Atlanta. He lost the game 5-4. Wins have been hard to come by for the Padres who come into this game with a record of 16-29. They have lost their last two games and are last in the majors with only 150 runs in total. They are 29th in batting average at .236 as a team. They are hoping this 10 game home stand will help them out. They played their last 16 out of 19 games on the road. Currently Oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have the Padres as -106 home underdogs heading into tonight’s game. The St. Louis Cardinals come into the game with a record of 26-20, but have dropped 8 of their last 10 games, before winning at home 9-8 yesterday. Todd Wellemeyer is getting the start for the Cardinals. He is 4-1 with a 3.27 era this season. He has allowed just 3 runs in 18 innings in his last three starts and is just coming off his best start of the season. He gave up only 2 singles and one run in 7 innings against Pittsburg on Wednesday. Look for the Cardinals to win this game easily against the worst team in major league baseball.
