The Boston Red Sox picked up pitcher Paul Byrd in a trade with the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday. The Red Sox will send either a player to be named or cash to the Indians. Last season Red Sox blew up the Indians right before game 7 during the last post-season by having MLB leak the HGH report, and now they want him to win games for them. He will do it though that is what he is getting paid to do. The Indians have traded away alot of important pieces this year. Byrd is 7-10 with a 4.53 ERA this season. But the right-hander has won all four of his starts since the All-Star break. Boston is still leading the AL wild-card race. They picked him up becuase Tim Wakefield will be out for some time and they need to put in another pitcher in there rotation. I am surprised that the NY Yankees did not try to get Byrd, they are far worse off in the pitching department than Boston is. To have the best team ERA in baseball (at least the AL) and to worry JUST about your fifth pitcher is pretty nice. See "GlenMcNeil" Sports Picks stats now!
