There is an unlikely rivalry brewing between these two teams after last year's MLB playoff match-up , and so far the Diamondbacks are getting the better of it. Arizona hung another loss on the Cubs last night by drubbing then 9-2. The Cubs are in desperate need of a win tonight as a loss would put them in a first place tie with the winner of this evening's game between the Cardinals and Brewers. Chicago has won just four of their last 10 and Milwaukee is breathing right down their neck after a six game winning streak. Tonight they send lefty Ted Lilly to the hill in hopes that he can shut down an Arizona offense that has averaged 5.4 runs per game in the last five meetings between these two clubs at Chase Field. Lilly has been solid pitching on the road recently, allowing just seven earned runs in his last 35 innings of work. Arizona will look to continue building some post All-Star break momentum as they to have a little company creeping up on them. After storming out of the blocks, the Diamondbacks cooled considerably. Fortunately for them they play in the NL West where a .500 record is good enough for first place. However, the Dodgers have been eyeballing a division lead for a couple of weeks now and sweeping the Cubs would be a nice way to keep them at bay. Doug Davis gets the start tonight for Arizona. He has been a little inconsistent, but he is capable of producing a solid outing at home.
