MLB Betting: NL Cy Young Award winner Jake Peavy Headed to DL (05-20-08)San Diego manager, Bud Black, indicated that Jake Peavy likely will miss more than two starts.  Peavy, who is 4-3 with a 2.91 ERA in nine starts, had been scheduled to start on Monday. Wil Ledezma got the start in his place.  And if it's anything more than just his next start, the already struggling Padres are in a world of hurt.  Looks like they are going to have to wait until 2009 as this season has been a disaster.  The oddsmakers at sportsbetting.com currently have the San Diego -130 to ST Louis heading into this MLB Matchup Tuesday night.

Hopefully its nothing serious, give the ace some rest and not risk his arm in this dismal season.  He was one of the few bright spots on the Padres this season.  The only bright side to the Padres having a dismal season is that maybe owner John Moores will open up his pocket book and sign some talent, instead of bringing in guys in the twilight of their careers.  I am so sick of watching these scrub lineups of the Padres.  Nice move, pay Padres Brian Giles 10 mil a year to get walks and hit into double plays.

San Diego has been competitive the past few years but that is not enough.  How many time have the Padres gotten out of the first round of the playoffs in the past 5 years?  How about a big fat 0.  Making the playoffs isn't good enough for the fans, they need to pick up young players that can hit.  The Padres have been so lucky with their bullpen the last couple years it is hard to sustain winning 2-1, 3-2 games. What good is a great rotation if you can't score runs, which has been a problem the last few years.  Could it be that Peavy is throwing too hard trying to win five games at once and trying to pull the Padres out of last place by himself?  Peavy was the winner of last year's NL Cy Young Award after leading the league in wins, ERA and strikeouts -- pitching's version of a Triple Crown.
