New York Yankees reliever LaTroy Hawkins has been suspended three games for throwing an inside, head-high pitch to Baltimore Orioles left fielder Scott Luke. In the 3rd inning of a 12-4 victory by Baltimore, Orioles pitcher Daniel Cabrera hit Jeter on the left hand with a 2-1 pitch and the star shortstop spun away in pain. Even the YES announcers (who by contract can't say anything bad about Jeter) admitted he was leaning over the plate. You can fine a guy hitting the inside corner. In the sixth inning of Tuesday night's game, Hawkins threw one pitch inside to Scott and then the next one over his head. Hawkins was immediately ejected by plate umpire Chuck Meriwether without a warning. The oddsmakers at sportsbook.com currently have the NY Yankees -125 favorites to Seattle heading into this MLB Matchup Friday night.
If a pitcher (who's already been suspended with no chance of winning an appeal) is going to throw at the batter's head in front of 50,000 people, then why doesn't he just admit it? Hawkins looked so stupid to sit there and say "it wasn't intentional" when everyone and their mother knows it was. Do you really think we're that dumb, LaTroy? That's like Clemens throwing the bat back at Piazza and saying "I thought it was the ball". You're already a coward for throwing at someone's head, knowing you'll never have to step in the batter's box. Denying it just makes you look more cowardly. The entire team needs to be fined in a situation like this. The Yankees keep headhunting...they need to pay the price before someone really gets hurt! When I saw that the Yankees signed Hawkins I couldn't believe it. Didn't they know he stunk when he was with the O's and they crushed him. Hawkins is a bum and I'm very happy he pitches for the Yankees. Maybe they shouldn't have suspend him, they should let him keep playing because he obviously isn't a danger to the batters in any situation. MLB Angle Plays For This Matchup Friday night with Seattle: When NY YANKEES team played as a Home team - After a conference game - Vs. Left handed pitchers - Coming off a Home win as a Favorite - Allowed 1 runs AGAINST in their last game 9-2 SU in this spot. When ANY MLB Team played as a -100 to -120 Home Favorite - After a division game - Coming off a 1 run win - Coming off vs. Left handed pitcher - Coming off a 2 game under NY YANKEES 13-2 O/U in this spot
