Underdog bettors will be hoping for a repeat of a highly profitable UFC 71 fight next weekend, when UFC heads to Northern Ireland for UFC 72: Victory. There's was tons of money to be made during UFC 71 if you didn't mind going against the favorite. In the main event Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell was a strong heavy favorite in his Light Heavy Weight title bout with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Everyone knows by now that the fight ended with Jackson wailing on the champ and stealing his title. Bettors also know that Rampage paid off quite well at +200 betting odds for the upset. That was nothing compared to Keith Jardine's shocking loss to Houston Alexander. It only took Alexander 48 seconds and a couple of punishing right hands to drop Jardine, who was a huge -550 favorite in the fight. Bettors probably won't be receiving such high underdog betting odds in the UFC 72 bouts, but that doesn't mean there isn't more money to be made on upsets. The main event, Rich Franklin versus Yushin Okami looks like another prime opportunity for an upset. The current odds have Franklin, the former Middleweight champion, listed as a -185 favorite. The lesser-known Okami is a +155 underdog. Both fighters match up extremely well, with comparable size and fighting techniques. Franklin and Okami can both throw hard-hitting punches, and they're also highly skilled defensive grapplers if the fight ends up on the ground. Okami only has four UFC fights under his belt (but he is 21-3-0 lifetime in MMA) and he's won all four using different methods. He went the distance in his last fight versus Mike Swick, winning a unanimous decision after inflicting a beating on the highly-skilled Swick. Bet on MMA at Wagerweb.com |

Some guys fight over women. Nick Thompson became a fighter just to impress one.
"A few years ago I went to see a mixed martial arts show with my new girlfriend," recalls the Minnesotan. "I wrestled a little bit in college so to try and impress her I told her I could do MMA. I started training the next week. I was awful, but I was hooked."
Thompson was in fact so awful he was nicknamed "The Fainting Goat" for his unfortunate resemblance to an animal notorious for losing consciousness when frightened. Knocked out in his first pro fight by journeyman Dan Hart, Thompson would go on to lose three of his first four bouts.
One of those early defeats came at the hands of Florida's Dustin "Clean" Denes, who again provides the opposition as the two square off on an all new episode of Bodog Fight: Costa Rica Combat this Tuesday, June 5th at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central on ION Television.
However, Denes (12-3-3) will face a much different Thompson this time around. The man now known only as "The Goat" rebounded from his early missteps to amass a record of 31-9-1 en route to becoming the new Bodog Fight Welterweight Champion. Thompson's stunning knockout upset of formerly undefeated champ Eddie Alvarez (9-1) at Bodog Fight: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Lindland in St. Petersburg, Russia last April is also featured on this episode.
One last thing in case you were wondering: The girlfriend Thompson fought to impress? She's now his fiance'.
Can't catch the action on ION (or The Fight Network in Canada)? All episodes of the Bodog Fight series are available worldwide through streaming video at BodogFight.com, with behind-the-scenes exclusives, fighter bios and additional footage only available online.

The UFC switches things up for UFC 72 as they take the show on the road to Northern Ireland. UFC 72 fight will be broadcast live from The Odyssey in Belfast, Northern Ireland on June 16. This is the third time the UFC has hosted a show in Europe, with their previous two European excursions being UFC 38 at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2002, and UFC70 at the MEN Arena in Manchester earlier this year. The main fighting event for the show was supposed to be former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin versus Martin Kampmann, but Kampmann was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury. Taking Kampmann's place in the bout will be Japanese MMA fighter Yushin Okami. Even without Kampmann on board this should be a great fight, as Franklin and Okami both match up very well as strong, hard-hitting fighters. Franklin last entered the octagon in March in UFC 68 versus Jason MacDonald. That was his first fight since losing the UFC Middleweight title to Anderson Silva in October. Franklin began the climb toward regaining his title by beating MacDonald in two rounds. Franklin sized up MacDonald with some quick shots in the opening round, but didn't take full control of the fight until Round 2. In the second round Franklin peppered Macdonald with a number of good shots before getting him to the ground. Once MacDonald was down the fight was over after Franklin got on top and started pounding on the defenseless MacDonald. The second round came to a close, but MacDonald's corner threw in the towel stopping the fight. Bet on MMA at Wagerweb.com |

UFC 73 odds are now posted and there are some interesting matchups going on in this pay-per-view event with Anderson Silva taking on Nathan Marquardt, Sean Sherk taking on Hermes Franca, and the highly anticipated battle between Rashad Evans and Tito Ortiz.
This event is being titled "Stacked" because of the intense card that is scheduled. Silva and Sherk will both be looking to defend their titles, Silva at middleweight, and Sherk at lightweight. Both of these individuals gained their titles at UFC 64 and will be taking on formidable challengers.
Silva is a Brazillian who has competed in Cage Rage, PRIDE, Shooto, and Rumble on the Rock. He has beaten some of the biggest names in the business including Rich Franklin and Jeremy Horn. His record stands at 18-4 with 10 knockouts and 3 submissions after his triangle choke win over Travis Lutter on Feb. 3rd at UFC 67.
Sherk has done almost everything he can in mixed martial arts fighting. His record is 33-2 with wins in both UFC and PRIDE. His style has drawn comparasions to former welterweight champ Matt Hughes, whom Sherk fought to a close decision loss for a title. Sherk has eight knockouts and thirteen submissions to his credit, but hasn't fought since winning the title over Kenny Florian back in October at UFC 64.

When devising a game plan, most mixed martial arts fighters play to their strengths - brawlers brawl, wrestlers wrestle and grapplers grapple. Clearly, middleweight sensation Trevor Prangley doesn't subscribe to this theory.
Despite his wrestling pedigree, the 34-year-old South African vows to beat striker Pierre "The Professional" Guillet at his own game when the two square off on an all new episode of Bodog Fight: Costa Rica Combat this Tuesday, May 29th at 11 p.m. / 10 p.m. Central on ION Television.
"I am actually looking forward to trading punches with him," says Prangley.
"Pierre is primarily a stand-up fighter, but I've been working hard in the gym to improve that particular aspect of my game. I think this fight will provide the perfect opportunity for me to see just how far I've come. Pierre is a tough guy, but I'm supremely confident in my own ability."
Prangley, who now trains at the Lion's Den in Idaho, has a pro record of 14-4, with notable wins over Chael Sonnen and Travis Lutter. He also earned his second unanimous decision over hard-hitting Andrei Semenov in December at Bodog Fight: USA vs. Russia.
