2007 NBA Playoff Preview - Detroit Pistons at Cleveland Cavaliers (Pistons lead 2-0)
SBG Global Opening Line: Cavaliers -3.5, Total 173

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost two heartbreaking games in Detroit, losing both games in similar fashion in the final few seconds. They now head back home down 0-2 and facing serious history. The odds are against the Cavaliers coming back and winning the series. Only two teams in NBA history have come back from a 2-0 deficit in the conference finals. It happened in 1971 when the Washington Bullets came back from 2-0 to beat the New York Knicks and in 1993, the Chicago Bulls rallied from 2-0 to beat the Knicks. Early betting at SBG Global for this game has the public believing the Cavaliers could win minus the points.

After losing 79-76 to the Pistons the Cavaliers must find a way to win Game #3 or the series will be nearly over. LeBron James had chances to win both of the first two games, yet the Cavaliers lost both games. Cleveland could be down after losing those two games but the Cavalier's players say otherwise. "You know us, we're going to stay confident," said Donyell Marshall, "We're still upbeat. The series isn't over. We were here last year down 0-2, came back and took a 3-2 lead. This year we're going to do the same thing -- continue to play either until we're in the championship or we go home. We're going to continue to play hard."

Cleveland is a 3.5 point favorite with a total of 173 at SBG Global.

Cleveland also needs to find a way to stop Rasheed Wallace who scored 10 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter, including a great 17-foot fadeaway baseline jumper with 24.3 seconds left to give the Pistons the lead. "I don't want to lose, I don't like to lose, and same thing for the other guys in the locker room," said Wallace, who also contributed 11 rebounds, two steals and two blocks. "You know, the guys in that locker room, we don't give up, no matter what the deficit is. It's just resilience with the guys in that locker room. Veterans, guys that don't want to lose."

"Since the playoffs started, Rasheed has been extremely motivated, extremely locked in and down the stretch he wanted the ball," Pistons coach Flip Saunders said. "But I thought this was definitely an Eastern Conference grind-it-out game, where both teams were hitting each other, battling. It was like Groundhog Day -- the exact same game as Game 1."

"He never ceases to amaze me," Detroit guard Chauncey Billups, who had 13 points, said of Wallace. "When he's focused like that, there's nobody who can stop him. He lives for these kinds of moments, man, like a lot of us do."

2007 NBA Playoff Preview - San Antonio Spurs at Utah Jazz (Spurs lead 2-0) PDF Print E-mail

2007 NBA Playoff Preview - San Antonio Spurs at Utah Jazz (Spurs lead 2-0)
SBG Global Opening Line: Jazz -2, Total 190

The Utah Jazz are undefeated at home in the playoffs and they will need to stay that way if they expect to make the Western Conference Finals into a series. Utah is down 2-0 to the San Antonio Spurs and must win Game #3 since no team has ever come back from 0-3 down to win an NBA series. "We can't just bank on the fact that we're going to be at home to win it for us," forward Carlos Boozer said. "We've got to show up." SBG Global reports that with the Jazz needing to win, the Over 190 seems to be the play.

The problem for Utah is that they have not really been competitive in either of their two losses in this series. Tim Duncan has been unstoppable and Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are carving up the Jazz. "We're playing as well as we have all year long," said Duncan. "But we go and we look at some film and we still see some little things that we're doing wrong. And that's a great feeling to have, to be able to improve on some stuff even in a series up 2-0 in the Western Conference finals."

Utah is a 2 point favorite with a total of 190.5 at SBG Global.

Utah is not doing much of anything well. Derek Fisher is a horrible 2-16 from the field and Mehmet Okur is 7-28. The Jazz are also not playing any defense at all. "I don't know if I've ever seen us be so totally lost just changing ends," head coach Jerry Sloan said. San Antonio is making 55 percent of their shots. "They're just picking us apart," Sloan said. "If you want to compete, you've got to compete on the defensive end. Then your offense will come around. We can't just think, `I've got to get me some points and we'll be better.' We've got to stop some people. You've got to play defense in this league in the playoffs. You're not going to outscore people every night."

Sloan also thinks the Jazz are not putting enough effort into the games. "It looks like we're playing an exhibition game the way we're running the floor," Sloan said. "I think we have to be held accountable for that."

The series may not be over though. The Spurs lost both regular-season games in Salt Lake City and the Jazz have been much better at home. "The fans are great," Spurs forward Robert Horry said. "They whoop and holler. They know if they can get up it gives their team energy."

2007 NBA Playoff Preview - Cleveland Cavaliers at Detroit Pistons (Pistons lead 1-0)
SBG Global Opening Line: Pistons -5.5, Total 174.5

The Detroit Pistons were able to get a win in Game #1 of the Eastern Conference Finals even though they didn't play particularly well. They will try and play better tonight and take a commanding 2-0 lead as they host the Cleveland Cavaliers. Early betting at SBG Global has the betting public taking the Pistons at home laying the points.

"It's a positive that we won, but it's a negative because we didn't feel like we won," Rasheed Wallace said. "That's just the way that we feel, the aura that's in our locker room."

Chauncey Billups had a difficult night but was still clutch in the fourth quarter for the Pistons. He had only three points and seven turnovers entering the fourth quarter. "My performance taking care of the ball and trying to set the table, it was pretty bad," he said. "But we came out with the win, and that's all really that matters. Good teams win ugly games."

Detroit is a 5.5 point favorite with a total of 173.5 at SBG Global.

"He held onto the ball maybe one dribble too long," Detroit head coach Flip Saunders said. "Chauncey just needs to make quicker decisions, which he did in the third quarter, and then when other guys started making plays."

Not many players had a good night for Detroit. Tayshaun Prince was 1-for-11 from the field, Chris Webber and Antonio McDyess were awful and really only Wallace did anything.

2007 NBA Playoff Preview - Utah Jazz at San Antonio Spurs (Spurs lead 1-0) PDF Print E-mail

2007 NBA Playoff Preview - Utah Jazz at San Antonio Spurs (Spurs lead 1-0)
SBG Global Opening Line: Spurs -6.5, Total 187

The Utah Jazz can't win at San Antonio and one game into their best of seven series against the Spurs that has not changed. The Spurs took care of the Jazz 108-100 on Sunday in a game that was not as close as the final score indicated. SBG Global reports that the gambling public expects much of the same tonight with most money on the Spurs at home laying the points.

The Spurs were superb in holding down Carlos Boozer but they did not contain Deron Williams who had 34 points. Williams scored 18 points in the 4th quarter making things respectable in the end. If Utah is to win this series they must be more competitive than they were in game #1. "It was important that we battled back, got it under 10 and we made a game of it, we didn't get blown off the court," Williams said. "It's not the end of the series. It's one game. We feel we can play better. Hopefully we will."

San Antonio is a 6.5 point favorite with a total of 188 at SBG Global

Williams is averaging 17.8 points, 8.9 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game in the playoffs. "He's already become one of the best (point guards) in the league," San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said. "He just gets more and more comfortable every month or so. He grows in intelligence, as far as what's going on in the NBA, and his confidence level. He's got the body and the toughness and the skills. He's going to be one of the top point guards that we've had for a long time."

Some people are comparing Williams and Boozer to John Stockton and Karl Malone. "In a couple of years, they're going to be better than Stockton and Malone, in my eyes," San Antonio's Robert Horry said. "The things Williams can do are extraordinary. The one thing he might be lacking is not being able to pass as good as Stockton. But I still think they're going to be a better combination."

The Spurs will try and avoid a letdown in Game #2 on Tuesday. The Spurs got an extra day off on Monday to avoid getting fatigued. "The game we really want is tomorrow so we make sure we give them no hope," the Spurs Tony Parker said. "Especially with a young team like that, it's always good."

Detroit Pistons Big Favorites to take Game-One and the Series of Eastern Conference Finals vs. Cavs PDF Print E-mail

Detroit Pistons Big Favorites to take Game-One and the Series of Eastern Conference Finals vs. CavsThe NBA Eastern Conference Finals (Game-One) begin today for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons at the Palace in Auburn Hills. It is essential that the top-seed Pistons establish superiority early in this series. They are fully aware of what Cleveland cost them a year ago by extending them to seven games and gassing them for their series with Miami. They not only need to beat the Cavaliers, they need to beat them expediently if – as seems possible, and perhaps likely – San Antonio disposes of Utah quickly in the West.

Cleveland’s strengths are rebounding , defense and LeBron James. Cleveland’s overwhelming weakness is putting the ball in the basket. James is pretty much it for the Cavs on that end of the court. Zydrunas Ilgauskas can hurt the Pistons for as long as he can stay on the court with his mid-range jump shots and tip-ins, but the Cavs really have no one else they can depend on to give them 15 points a night. That puts enormous pressure on James to be efficient in his ratio of shots to makes and assists to turnovers. It’s enough to beat most teams, but the Pistons have Tayshaun Prince to throw at him and solid team defense behind him.
