NBA Playoffs - Golden State Warriors at Dallas Mavericks PDF Print E-mail

NBA Playoffs - Golden State Warriors at Dallas Mavericks

The biggest surprise so far in this year's NBA playoffs was Golden State's upset of the Dallas Mavericks in Game #1. The Warriors will try and shock the world tonight and pull off the road sweep. In order to accomplish this again, the Warriors will need to play amazing defense, so it is no surprise that SBG Global reports most early wagers are on the Under 210.

Dallas had a sub par performance from Dirk Nowitzki who had only 14 points. "He's got to bounce back," Dallas head coach Avery Johnson said. "I don't think we're that good when he shoots 4-for-16." Nowitzki missed both 3-pointers he tried and also missed two free throws. "They're really all over me as soon as I put the ball down," Nowitzki said. "They're really running at me hard. They're fronting me in the post, front and back sometimes if I have it. Everybody's on alert. As soon as I put it down, they're coming."

The Dallas Mavericks are a 9.5 point favorite with a total of 210 at SBG Global.

The Mavericks haven't beaten Golden State all year. The Warriors are 4-0 against Dallas this season and now have six straight wins dating to last season. The Warriors are having success in part because head coach Don Nelson knows how to stop Nowitzki. Nelson knows it may end at any moment though. "We're just trying to seize the moment, enjoy that, have a little fun with it. So nobody's uptight," he said. "Relax. What's the worst thing that could happen? You could looooooose?! Big deal. I mean, we've lost 40 games this year already."

Dallas has lost five straight postseason games, as they lost the last four games against Miami in last year's NBA finals. "So this team is mentally strong," Nowitzki said. "We've got to show it. We've got to be a little more crisp and we'll get the job done." "Everybody's got to play better," Jerry Stackhouse said. "It's not about us just helping Dirk, it's about helping ourselves."

NBA Playoffs - Denver Nuggets at San Antonio Spurs PDF Print E-mail

NBA Playoffs - Denver Nuggets at San Antonio Spurs

One of the biggest shockers in the NBA playoffs so far was the Nuggets victory over San Antonio in game #1. Many experts still are not convinced by the Nuggets opening game win. "It doesn't matter what everyone else thinks," Nuggets' center Marcus Camby said. "Our mind-set is that us 15 players out here, (we're) the only ones who probably really think we can beat the Spurs." According to SBG Global early betting reports though, Camby is not alone in thinking they can beat the Spurs with the public taking the Nuggets plus the points.

Denver will try for the road sweep tonight in Game #2. Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson are leading the way for Denver on offense but it is Marcus Camby and his defense that is drawing praise. Camby led the league in blocked shots and had eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in the 95-89 win in game one. "You have to respect him, you can't leave him wide open," Spurs guard Tony Parker said.

The San Antonio Sours are a 8.5 point favorite with a total of 193.5 at SBG Global.

The Nuggets have won 11 of their last 12 games and will not be an easy out for the Spurs. "They've got a complete basketball team," Spurs forward Robert Horry said. "Next year they're probably going to be even more dangerous, probably going to be one, two or three seed."

"We've just got to seize the moment," Camby said. "And why not shoot for the championship right now and try to repeat next year? But it's still going to be tough. There's a lot of great teams still left in the playoffs, but I like our chances."

Spurs look to rebound against Nuggets PDF Print E-mail

Spurs look to rebound against Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets surprised many observers by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 95-89 in Game 1 of their opening-round series. But a look at recent history illustrates that Nuggets' fans should not look too far ahead.

Back in 2005 the Nuggets also defeated the Spurs in Game 1 of their opening-round NBAplayoff series, and everyone started talking about an upset. Those upset thoughts were quickly quelled as San Antonio went on to win the next four games and quickly showed Denver the door.

This time things could be different thanks to Denver's big one-two punch of Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony. The dynamic duo shredded the Spurs in Game 1, with Iverson leading the way with 31 points and Anthony chipping in with 30 points and eight rebounds. The Nuggets' two superstars also got some help from the frontcourt, as Nene had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Marcus Camby added eight points and 10 rebounds.

NBA Playoffs: Warriors Could Cost the Mavs the Title PDF Print E-mail

NBA Playoffs: Warriors Could Cost the Mavs the TitleOddsmakers were off just a tad when they favored the Dallas Mavericks by 10 points over the Golden State Warriors in game one on this number eight seed versus number one seed Western Conference matchup. The Warriors have now won six straight games over Dallas and with Sunday night’s victory, you have to think that Golden State just might have a chance to pull off the unthinkable series upset of the best team in the NBA.

As good as Dallas is and has been all season, there is no question that the Warriors are in the Mavs’ heads. You would have thought that the Warriors were the best team in the NBA the way they dictated what Dallas’ lineup would be throughout much of the game. Don Nelson has vowed to play small ball against his former team. Avery Johnson actually adjusted what Dallas does against the worst Western Conference team in the playoffs instead of just playing the game which led the Mavs to the NBA’s best record. He tried to match up small with the Warriors instead of playing his big lineups and pounding Golden State inside. This has undoubtedly left the Warriors with soaring confidence and the Mavericks scratching their heads.

I know that Dallas didn’t shoot well in game one. Dirk Nowitzky was 4-of-16 from the field, Josh Howard was just 8-of-21, and Jerry Stackhouse was 0-for-6. I attribute some of this to the rustiness that comes with sitting starters down the stretch. Golden State had to go 9-1 down the home stretch to even advance to the postseason. All of the Warriors players hadn’t missed a minute heading into game one and it showed.

NBA Game: Suns vs. Lakers PDF Print E-mail

NBA Game: Suns vs. Lakers

Kobe Bryant may have scored a game-high 39 points in Game 1 of the Lakers' opening-round series versus the Suns, but it wasn't enough to net Los Angeles a win as Phoenix toppled the Lakers 95-87 on Sunday.

The Lakers took an early lead in Game 1 and were still leading at halftime, but everything changed after the break. Bryant went from hitting everything he threw at the basket to missing shots he usually would have made with his eyes closed. The result was that Bryant only scored 11 of his 39 points in the second half. Only two other Laker players scored in double figures with Lamar Odom adding 17 points and 16 rebounds (when he wasn't getting a cut above his right eye stitched up), and Luke Walton with 10 points.

While the Lakers were having trouble scoring in the second half, the Suns exploded. Leandro Barbosa must have stolen Bryant's shooting touch at the half because he went on to score 19 points in the second half and finish with a NBA team-high 26 points. Unlike Bryant, Barbosa received plenty of support with Amare Stoudemire adding 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Steve Nash was his usual efficient self with 20 points and 10 points. Shawn Marion also had a stellar game with 16 points and 16 rebounds.
