 Last Sunday’s NFL picks matchup between the San Diego Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers was notable for a number of reasons:
- 1) It was the first time in NFL history that a game ended 11-10,
- 2) it was the Chargers’ 13th straight loss (0-13) in Pittsburgh,
- 3) and the referees blew a call on the last play that would have made the final score 17-10 for the Steelers—Pittsburgh was favored by 4.5-points.
#3 on the list I’m sure you were all well aware of.
Four days removed from that controversial game, the Pittsburgh Steelers return to the scene of the crime, playing a Thursday nighter against the Cincinnati Bengals as 10.5-point home faves with the Total set at a paltry 34.
The Steelers are a very pedestrian 9-11 ATS in the last 20 games against their division rivals from Cincinnati, and despite the Bengals having been one of the worst franchises in NFL history, they usually play the Steelers tough (Pittsburgh is only 11-9 straight up in those last 20 meetings).
The “Bungles” have been a profitable play in this situation over the last few years, as they boast a mark of 13-7 against the spread when they’ve been underdogs of more than 8-points.
As mentioned above, the Total on this one has been set at a very low 34 – based on the assumption the Bengals are going to struggle to score any points on this Steeler team, while the Pitt offense has its issues as well. However, when these two have hooked up in the past, the Over has been a reliable bet, cashing in at a rate of 7-3 the last 10 games Pittsburgh has hosted Cincy in Steel Town.
Despite Pittsburgh’s inability to officially cover in that wild finish last Sunday, the public is confident that they will make amends this week and reward their backers - Sportsbook.com is seeing 76% of the action going the Steelers’ way in this tilt.

Looking at some early action from Sunday’s matchups, one of the games getting a lot of attention from the betting public is the Jets-Titans battle.
The Titans, like last year’s New England Patriots, have been very good to their backers through the first half of the season, going a perfect 10-0 straight up, but just as impressively, running up a 9-0-1 ATS mark. Worth noting though is the fact that while the 2007 Patriots kept on winning games straight up in the second part of the season, they quit covering pointspreads.
The Titans will face a true test this week as they host Brett Favre and the New York Jets, listed as 5.5-point favorites; the Total is set at 40.5.
The public seems to be divided on this game as only a slight 57% majority of the betting volume is coming in on the Tennessee Titans.
Over in the AFC East, the 6-4 Miami Dolphins have designs on making the postseason and, dare we say the division title; not bad for a club that was 1-15 last season.
The team’s first win of 2008 came against the New England Patriots during Week 3 in a surprising 38-13 upset; they were 12.5-point underdogs.
Miami’s opponent this week? The New England Patriots with the Dolphins listed as slight 1.5-point home faves.
The Dolphins surprised the Pats with the introduction of its Wildcat Offense last time but chances are New England coach Bill Belichick has been prepping a game plan to counter that overused gadget play ever since.
The last game was in New England and this week’s game is in Florida and that bodes well for a Miami team that is 7-3 SU and ATS in their last 10 home tilts; the Under has gone 6-4 in that same span.
Early betting action is hoping the Patriots get a little revenge, as 57% of the money is coming in on New England.
