Betting against the spread, moneyline and totals on the NFL! (08-04-2008)
The Hall of Fame game has gave us our first taste of the 2008-2009 NFL Betting Season . With every NFL team having a clean slate, I wanted to share the information that I have worked on over the off-season. This will be what you need to know when placing your early season wagers to grab fast cash before the oddsmakers make their adjustments. Take the next few weeks of preseason ball to watch these new coaches and player signings...

Michael McKillop's Best Offseason Team Moves
The Cleveland Browns have thought all offense the last few years in the draft with Edwards, Winslow, Thomas and Quinn. Which are all big time names to the general public, but their biggest name this season will be Mel Tucker... Who is Cleveland's big new change in Defensive Coordinator, replacing Todd Grantham. Mel spent the last four years with Ohio State as their Co-Defensive Coordinator/DB Coach. (Remember the Giant's run last year with their young and hungry new d-coordinator). Tucker was brought in to stop the run, which only he only has room to improve. Cleveland was ranked 27th in the league against the run and 30th in total defense. Tucker will have his hands full, but has some new help with the Brown's paying big time for Rogers and Williams.

The next team that may bring us easy early season cash will surprise most of the public and professional handicappers/gamblers. The Carolina Panthers is the team I am most interested in seeing this preseason. We all know what happened last year, but I have fallen in love with their moves over the past couple of years. Last year was a mess with their quarter back injuries, and new offensive line schemes. However, this year will be their second season learning the zone-blocking system for their running game. Jeff Davidson (2nd year Offensive Coordinator) will have them ready and we know how much Coach Fox loves to pound the rock. Utah's tackle Jeff Otah (19th overall pick) will help Davidson's zone blocking schemes even more. Plus a backfield of Williams, Foster and rookie Jonathon Stewart (13th overall pick), their rushing game will be scary. Remember, it wa s only a few seasons ago we seen a healthy Jake Delhomme in the Super Bowl...

The more obvious moves that I really liked: The Pittsburgh Steeler's Draft, and the Dallas Cowboy's draft and free agent signings...

Michael McKillop's Worst Offseason Team Moves
The Chicago Bears??? Our NFC Champions to a 7-9 record last season. Alright, sometimes we all need a few steps back to move forward, but what is this team doing. They keep Rex Grossman, but let Berrian and Muhammed leave? Grossman will know look to Marty Booker, Rashied Davis, Brandon Lloyd and rookie Earl Bennett? After sending Thomas Jones to the Jets for nothing last year, and banking on Cedric Benson? I can't see any improvements on their rank of 30th in rushing the football. Chicago will be a trap bet all season long, be very careful...

This next team has no rushing game, a quarter back that turns 36 this September, and a President that has a record of 31-81 (.277) since 2001. The Detriot Lions will/should fire Matt Millen this season. With the loss of Mike Martz (offensive coordinator) and Donnie Henderson (defensive coordinator), head coach Rod Marinelli has his hands full to start his third season. Joe Barry (new defensive coordinator) inherits their injury prone defense and one terrible secondary, plus their loss of Shaun Rogers (7 sacks). Watch the lines closely as fast cash could be gained. The Lions are 4-19 straight up, 8-15 against the spread in their last 23 road games...

Some more moves that leave me asking why: The Tennessee Titans none draft of a receiver...
