NFL Picks: Jacksonville Jaguars v. New England Patriots Betting (01-08-2008) The Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New England Patriots odds are anticipated to get some of the most betting attention in the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs. Bettors are speaking with their pocket books that they want to see if the Patriots can continue their run to 19-0. Oddsmakers feel the Pats will have no problem this week based on their -13 line that they have set in favor of New England. If you are planning on making a wager on either the point spread or total for this game, this article should help point you in the right direction. If you want to be rest assured the most winners the rest of the NFL playoffs, do yourself a favor and pick up one of Dave Price’s NFL picks packages. Then head over to SportsBetting.com who currently have Jacksonville +13 for this NFL playoff matchup.

Jacksonville’s performance last week did not exactly instill confidence in bookmakers about their chances in New England and the line reflects that. The Jags won a hard fought battle, but had trouble moving the football and the defenses was not able to defend the pass. Hopefully this was just a little bit of rustiness from starters sitting out the previous week. We all know that the Jags cannot give up 297 passing yards to Tom Brady like they did for Big Roethlisberger last week. The Jags’ recent play indicates that last week’s performance could have just been a fluke. In their last four games to end the regular season the Jags gave up only 120, 105, 106, and 99 passing yards in each, and offensively put up an average of 415 yards per game. The Jags also boast the best two headed monster running back duo in the league. Fred Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew will be the two biggest obstacles standing in the way of 17-0 for New England.

The Pats were able to rest last week as they earned a bye with the number one seed in the AFC. The Pats didn’t really have the problem of players trying to recover from injury. This is a pretty healthy team. So they have been able to use the extra time for more reps and preparation. There was not a better offense in the NFL this season. New England’s 36.8ppg this season set an NFL record. It’s defense was nearly as good allowing just 17.1ppg. Tom Brady and Randy Moss has record breaking years and Wes Welker has been a nice addition as well. Running back Laurence Maroney provides the balance. Defensively, the Pats may not be the most talented, but they are definitely among the most disciplined teams and execute flawlessly.

Consider these trend before making your wagers:

  • The Jags are 6-3 straight up and ATS on the road this season.
  • The Jags have gone OVER the total in 11 straight games.
  • Jacksonville is 6-0 ATS after a 2 game road trip over the last 2 seasons.
  • The Pats have won 6 of the last 7 games in this series.
  • New England started the season 8-0 ATS but finished just 2-6.
  • The Pats were 11-5 OVER the total this season.

NFL Odds:

  • Jacksonville Jags +13
  • New England Patriots -13
  • Total is set at 47

Predicted Score:

  • Jacksonville Jags 17
  • New England Patriots 30
