NY Giants key addition is Sammy Knight, he is a free safety replacing Gibril Wilson who went to the Oakland Raiders. Knight signed a $5 million deal for three years. The Giants can use a smart, veteran player in the secondary. Three years might be a little long for Knight, who is 32 years old, but he is going to bring leadership to the team, and that is what they need with a young secondary. The front four on defense showed how to beat the Patriots last year in the Superbowl, but they have lost Michael Strahan to retirement. The player to watch out for this season is Justin Truck who could have been the MVP of the Superbowl last year. Osi Umenyiora is another defensive lineman who can change a game around in a hurry.
Eli Manning had an alright year in the regular season, and remarkable playoff run. He didn't put up big numbers but he hardly made any mistakes. He has some of his worst games right before his best. No Tiki, no problem. The Giants rushed for 2,148 yards last year after replacing Barber. The Giants are deep at running back, but most teams in the league are. Brandon Jacobs is a big and powerful runner, but Derrick Ward proved to be just as good before he broke his leg late in the season. It will be tough to win back to back in the Superbowl. It also will be tough in this division this year with everyone gunning for them. It's hard to get back to the sSuperbowl and win. I think the NY Giants really got lucky last season, and they won't this year. The public loves the Giants this year, and they are in a tough division and Washington, Philadelphia and Dallas Cowboys are all improving and these are the teams they have to play twice. It is going to be hard to duplicate last year's 10-6 record with teams out for revenge from losing last season to them. I'm making a small bet for the NY Giants to go under the total in total wins for the season. The oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com currently have NY Giants under 10 -110 2008 Regular Season Wins odds.
