Top 5 Super Bowl Commercials of All-time (01-23-2008)
If neither of your teams are playing Super Bowl Sunday , or if the game doesn’t produce the level of Super Bowl betting excitement you were hoping for, at least you can count on the commercials to keep your interest. One of the things the Super Bowl is known for is its zany and creative ads that play throughout the game. I’ve done a little research and have taken the liberty of listing my top five best Super Bowl commercials to provide a little walk down memory lane for you Super Bowl ad lovers.

1. Budweiser Frogs (1995)
I don’t care if you’ve never touched a drop of Bud’s golden goodness, it is nearly impossible not to crack up at its Super Bowl lineup. Do you remember that little swamp filled with crickets, fireflies, and Bulfrogs. Is it just me or do those frog croaks sound like “Bud” “Weisssss” “Errrrrr”? Every elementary kid to adult in the world was wearing this one out for the next month.

2. McDonald’s Showdown (1993)

As a big Larry Bird fan, this one is one of my personal favorites. Michael Jordan and Larry Legend going head-to-head in the greatest game of “Horse” of all time and the winner takes home a Big Mac. “Off the floor, off the scoreboard, off the backboard, no rim,” Bird says. Jordon counters with a shot off the Hancock Building and says, “off the expressway, over the river, off the billboard, through the window, off the wall, nothing but net.” I would love to see another round of this one.

3. Budweiser Clydesdales (1996)
I’m realizing that I would be easily satisfied with five Bud ads as the best Super Bowl commercials of all time. This one really sticks out in my mind though. A team of Clydesdales go head-to-head in a game of pick-up football. Someone asks is they always do that after seeing a horse boot the pigskin through the uprights. A cowboys answers, “they usually go for two.”

4. Master Lock Marksman (1974)

This one takes us back 34 years and makes the list, not because of its immediate humor, but because of its increasing humor and familiarity. A sharpshooter fires at a padlock hanging in the center of a bullseye and puts a bullet through it. The lock takes the shot and does not break. This ad airs, with only slight variances, for the next 21 Super Bowls and the lock never breaks. It’s one of those you had to see to get the full effect of its impact.

5. E*Trade Monkey (2000)
I know you guys haven’t forgotten about this commercial to kick off the new millennium. Two stupid guys and a monkey clap along to cha-cha music in a garage until we get the punch line: “well, we just wasted 2 million bucks. What are you doing with your money?” It was a great play on the cost of Super Bowl ad spots. This was easily the cheapest Super Bowl ad that year showing that simple is often better.
