There are several types of bluffs that can be used.  This article explains the pure bluff, and how it can give players the tactical advantage.  So if you find yourself in trouble at the 2008 WSOP tables this is, perhaps your only option, because it is the most simple bluff to use, yet it can be very effective. 

A pure bluff, also known as a stone-cold bluff, involves a bet or raise with an inferior hand that has little to know chance of improving.  A player who makes a pure bluff will do so upon belief that the pot can be won only if all other opponents choose to fold.  This is, of course, a risky move to take, but one that, if executed well, can definitely work in your favor if you find yourself struggling to survive at a 2008 WSOP final table . 

Since the pot odds for a bluff are the ratio of the actual size of the bluff to that of the pot.  A pure bluff would then show a positive expectation, which means it will be profitable in the long run when the probability of being called by one or more opponents is lower than the pots odds for the bluff.

Any bluff is risky, simply because of its nature, but a pure bluff can be riskier than others.  This is because it is very possible that others might decide to call it.  Still, as stated above, it can be very effective if used correctly, and if the player choosing to bluff is good at the craft.
