The World Series of Poker Gold Bracelet is considered to be the most coveted prize in poker second, arguably, only to the cash prize that one receives from winning a World Series event. The tradition of giving a bracelet to the winners of events during the World Series of Poker started in 1976 and since then a bracelet has been awarded to every winner of the annual events. Winners that placed prior to 1976 did not receive bracelets at the time, but their wins are counted as ‘bracelets’. While the earlier bracelets have been appraised at a few hundred dollars at best, as the appeal of the sport has grown so too has the value of the bracelets. Today, the World Series of Poker bracelet is designed by the prestigious jeweler Corum. Corum took over the design of the bracelet in 2007 after Harrah’s Entertainment bought the rights to the World Series of Poker. This buyout took place in 2004 and it took the additional three years until Corun would design the World Series of Poker Gold Bracelet. Fifty-three winners now receive a World Series of Poker Gold Bracelet adorned with 53 diamonds. There are two specially designed bracelets, one for the Ladies World Champion and one for the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. poker champion. While the appraisal of the 2007 World Series of Poker Gold Bracelet has not been clearly defined, typical bracelets designed by Corum can cost up to $30,000. Over time, the World Series of Poker Gold Bracelet actually gained prestige. In the beginning, few people cared about the bracelet. One winner, Doyle Brunson, won ten bracelets over the course of his career. The first World Series of Poker bracelet meant nothing to him and he later admitted to not picking up two of his ten bracelets.
