Women’s World Cup Semifinals Set
Heavy soccer betting favorite Bayern Munich opened up the 2007-2008 UEFA Cup with a tough 1-0 victory over Portuguese club Belenenses. Other UEFA Cup favorites were not as successful. Blackburn lost to Larissa 2-0 while Everton and Bolton both had opening draws. Tottenham did have a nice start as they won over Anorthosis Famagusta 6-1.

Bayern had all of their top players except Miroslav Klose who had a one-match suspension. Bayern will need to improve upon their 1-0 win in the second leg in Lisbon on October 4th. Luca Toni scored the only goal of the game. England striker Jermain Defoe had two goals for Tottenham in their 6-1 victory. Blackburn’s loss was surprising as former Everton striker Ibrahima Bakayoko scored to lead Larissa. Bolton played to a 1-1 at Macedonia club FK Rabotnicki. Everton played to a 1-1 draw at home to Ukrainians's FC Metalist Kharkiv.
The Women’s World Cup semifinals are set with the United States facing Brazil and Norway taking on Germany. The last time that the United States faced Brazil it was the Americans taking a 2-0 victory. U.S. head coach knows that the match will not be easy. "Brazil's primary tactic was fouling us to break our rhythm," recalled Ryan. "We had more of the ball, and their response to that was just to foul." It will be important that the U.S. gets a referee that is fair for this match.

Germany got by Korea in the quarterfinals in a hard fought 3-0 game. German goalkeeper Nadine Angerer was named the Player of the Match. Norway just got by host China winning 1-0 as Chinese defender Wang Kun made a bad play that gave Norway their only goal.
The semifinals will be played on Wednesday in Tianjin where Germany faces Norway and on Thursday in Hangzhou when the United States faces Brazil. The final and the third-place playoff will be played in Shanghai.
The FIFA rankings in June had the U.S. as the top team in the world followed by Germany in 2nd, Norway 4th and Brazil 8th so the semifinals are not a surprise.
