Champions League: AC Milan v Liverpool

England’s Liverpool takes on Italy’s AC Milan in the 2007 UEFA Champions League Final Wednesday May 23 at 2:45 p.m. ET. The game will take place in Athens, Greece in the famous Olympic Stadium. AC Milan playmaker, Kaka, expects Liverpool to play a long ball game and I think we all should trust Kaka’s judgment. The Brazilian playmaker was brilliant in the semifinal matchup against soccer power Manchester United scoring two goals. I guess it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to anticipate how Liverpool will play knowing that all British sides play a very tactical game on offense and mark tightly on defense. AC Milan’s semifinal matchup with Manchester United may have been the best possible preparation for Liverpool in the Final.

You can also bet that AC Milan footballers who shared in agonizing defeat over a 2005 Champions League Final loss to Liverpool in a match that ended in a shootout will be out for revenge. The reason I say agonizing is because the Italian side seemingly had the game won with a 3-0 lead at the half. For those of you who don’t follow soccer closely, that’s like blowing a 30-point lead in basketball.

AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso is one such player who has spoken out saying that revenge will be sweet. Gattuso also said that he feels Machester United was the better side and accused Liverpool of using outdated tactics. This type of banter is soccer’s version of boxing trash talking and may not be the best strategy for AC Milan who already has the revenge factor on its side.
