Soccer Showdown: English Premier League (8/17/2007)
English Premier League Showdowns on Sunday

Sunday in the English Premier League there are three games on the schedule and each one should be intense. It is Manchester United at Manchester City, Arsenal at Blackburn and Chelsea at Liverpool. The three league favorites are all on the road in what should be excellent matches.

Although very early in the season these three matches are critically important to the home squads. Manchester City is off to a fast start with 6 points while United is missing key players and struggling with just 2 points. Even with all of the injuries, United is still favored in the game. United is without the injured Wayne Rooney and will also be without Cristiano Ronaldo who was suspended for head-butting.

Steven Gerrard has suffered a hairline fracture in a toe bone but will play for Liverpool on Sunday against Chelsea. The Reds captain sustained the minor fracture during Wednesday's 1-0 win at Toulouse in the Champions League third qualifying round first leg. "I think he will be available for the weekend, Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez said, “The only problem is, if we push him now, he might need a little bit of a rest afterwards.” Gerrard is England’s vice-captain and may not play against Germany in the friendly next week. Liverpool is the slight favorite over Chelsea on Sunday.
