As the No. 1 seeds for both the men’s and women’s sides for this year’s Wimbledon (which starts on Monday) were announced there was a distinct French flavor. Lets take a early look at the Wimbledon 2008 odds in this SportsBetting.com betting odds preview.
Not to say that either was of French descent but rather the top male and female both were in the finals of the French Open at Roland Garros a few weeks back. Red clay might as well be red kryptonite for Superman Federer. He has lost the last three French Opens to Rafael Nadal but Wimbledon is a different creature. The world’s No. 1 men’s player seems at home on the grass courts of the All England Club and has taken the last five consecutive men’s titles even taking down Nadal in last year’s final. SportsBetting.com fittingly has Federer at even money to take yet another Wimbledon title. On the ladies side, 2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic has the honor of getting top spot in the women’s draw but that doesn’t mean she will get Roger Federer-like odds for Wimbledon 2008. Ivanovic is currently listed at 5-1. Maria Sharapova has already taken a Grand Slam event this season, with a win at the Australian Open, where she ironically enough defeated Ana Ivanovic, and she won it all at the All England Club four years ago. Sharapova is listed at 9-4. The Williams sisters always seem to do well at Wimbledon, taking a combined six of the last eight women’s titles, in fact, Venus Williams is the defending women’s champion. If Venus wins she’ll pay out at 9-2, if Serena wins it will be at 5-2. Summer’s here, so enjoy it, as we wait for football to start, there is still plenty of wagering options. Good luck with your bets this weekend.
